Burford Town Council Local Council for the town of Burford, Oxfordshire, England

Looking forward to enjoying some al fresco sizzled sausages, some chargrilled veggies and seeing who will get BBQ master 2026?

Us too!

But please when you are finished with your BBQing, did you know that the gas cylinders could be refilled, taken back to the supplier, or brought to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Why?

Because gas cylinders shouldn't be placed into any of your kerbside bins. They can explode in the collection vehicles, potentially causing harm to the collection crew or to the public or they could end up at a facility which is not set up to accept them and causing problems there, e.g. fires or explosions etc.

This information is also on our Waste Wizard search tool, found at www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/wastewizard

🚧 Know the rules for road storage! 🚧

Did you know that non-motorised vehicles (NMVs), including caravans, trailers, boats, and horseboxes, are not permitted on public highways? Leaving them on the road can create obstacles for traffic, restrict parking options for residents and even contribute to littering.

When an NMV is spotted, the Council will place a 28-day notice on it for removal. If the vehicle isn’t relocated within this time, it will be removed and stored for 10 days before disposal (if unoccupied).

If you’re the owner and can show proof of ownership, you may reclaim your NMV as long as it doesn’t return to public land.

If you notice a NMV that’s been parked for an extended period, report it here 👉 https://www.westoxon.gov.uk/environment/abandoned-vehicles/
