Millfield First & Nursery School

Millfield First & Nursery School Working together to meet the needs of all our children At Millfield First & Nursery School every child really matters.

We are committed to offering our pupils a broad curriculum and the opportunity to excel academically, in sport and the arts in a safe and caring environment. At Millfield First & Nursery School we aim to help all our children to:

- Have a love of learning and try their best
- Be confident in themselves
- Have respect for themselves, others and the world we live in
- Achieve their full potential
-

Have a strong sense of family and community
- Have equal access to all aspects of school life

In February 2009 our School was judged ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. Our School’s greatest strength is its strong feeling of community. Children are happy and secure in their learning. Ofsted judged the children’s personal development and well being as ‘outstanding’. We are very proud of this and believe that by working closely with pupils, parents and staff, we have a very special School.

An Amber Heat Health Alert from Hertfordshire County Council is currently in place, running until 8:00pm on 23rd June 2026.

We will be taking measures such as ventilating rooms, switching off electrical devices, closing blinds and keeping children out of direct sun.

For next week, children are welcome to wear their PE kit (even if it is not their PE day) or summer school uniform to keep as cool as possible.

Ward Freeman Swimming Pool & Drowning Prevention week

A huge thank you to Joanne Willet, Trustee of the Ward Freman Community Pool Group, for visiting Millfield and leading such an informative and engaging assembly. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Ward Freman Pool and gained valuable knowledge as part of Drowning Prevention Week.

It was also lovely to see a sea of red and yellow across the school today, with both children and staff dressing up as lifeguards to show their support, a fantastic display of community spirit!

Family Friday

We had a wonderful Family Friday session this morning focused on our Book Look for Learning, where families had the chance to explore the children’s books and see the progress they’ve made over time. It was great to talk through examples of the children’s work and celebrate their achievements together. Thank you to everyone who joined us, your support means so much and we hope you enjoyed the session as much as we did!

International Day

Our KS1 and KS2 children recently took part in a fantastic International Day, where the focus was on discovering and celebrating cultures from across the world. Children spent the day travelling between different classrooms, each offering a unique experience linked to a particular country. Activities ranged from creative art projects and music to learning about traditions and interesting facts from around the world. The children fully embraced the opportunity to explore new cultures, showing great curiosity and respect throughout the day. The event was a great success, providing a fun and meaningful way to develop the children’s awareness of the wider world while celebrating diversity within our school community.
