Our crew recently undertook water rescue training with looking at different ways of assisting and rescuing people who have found themselves in difficulty in water. The crew refreshed throw lines, reach pole rescue, silching, and the use of an RS 3 held on board our water first responder appliances found across the county. πŸ’§ πŸ›Ÿ πŸ†˜

Today we join fire services across the world in marking Firefighters Memorial Day.
We will be observing a minute’s silence at midday to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, to recognise the courage and commitment of firefighters globally and to reflect on the sacrifices made serving our communities.

Even on the warmest days, our rivers and lakes stay surprisingly cold. That shock can hit your body hard β€” making it suddenly difficult to swim or even breathe properly.

If you’re getting into the water, don’t jump in. Take it slow, give your body time to adjust, and stay in control.
And if you ever accidentally fall in:
➑️ Fight the urge to panic
➑️ Tilt your head back
➑️ Spread your arms and legs
➑️ Float… breathe… and regain control

Be Water Aware.

This Thursday the crew undertook some joint work to support a young offenders rehabilitation. The crew simulated what it would be like to be extricated from a vehicle which had been involved in an RTC.
The crew used the RTC team approach, this involves making an initial scene assessment whereby a crew member gained quick access to provide first aid ⛑️ to the casualty via the boot window πŸͺŸ . The crew then gained initial access and stabilised the car using wedges and blocks to ensure it remained stable and safe πŸ‘πŸΌ . The crew then managed the glass windows πŸͺŸ πŸ’₯ and ensured the safety ⚠️ system such as air bags were disabled to stop deployment. The crew then created space by removing doors πŸšͺ from the vehicle to gain full access and finally removed the roof to safely extricate the casualty via the long board to support any neck or back injuries.
