Be Part of Bungay’s Community Self-Help Team
Do you love Bungay and want to help keep our town looking welcoming, cared for and full of community pride? We’re looking for local people to join Bungay’s Community Self-Help volunteers — a friendly team helping to make small improvements that have a big impact.

Through Suffolk County Council’s Community Self-Help Scheme, volunteers can support practical tasks that help brighten up local spaces, from cleaning signs and clearing light vegetation to helping public areas feel safer, tidier and more inviting. More than 50 towns and parishes across Suffolk are already involved — and Bungay can be part of that growing county-wide effort.

You don’t need to be an expert to take part. Volunteers are supported with guidance, training opportunities and clear information so that tasks are carried out safely and confidently. Whether you can spare a morning now and then, enjoy being outdoors, or simply want to give something back, every contribution counts.

Getting involved is also a great way to meet neighbours, learn new skills and see the difference your time makes. A cleaned sign, a clearer path or a well-kept shared space may seem like a small thing — but together, these small actions help make Bungay an even better place for residents, visitors and local businesses.
Bungay has always been a town with strong community spirit. By signing up as a Community Self-Help volunteer, you’ll be joining others who care about where they live and want to play an active part in looking after it.

Come and dress as your ancestors. A display of working clothes covering 3000 years of Bungay life.

The exhibition is overseen by the Black Knight Historical Society who will not only have examples of working clothes used by people working in Bungay but a video explaining the purpose of the fabrics used in clothing and clothing for those who wish to dress and travel back in time.Step into Bungay’s past and discover how working people dressed across 3,000 years of history. This fascinating interactive display, overseen by the Black Knight Historical Society, brings the past to life with authentic examples of working clothing, alongside a video exploring the fabrics, materials and practical purposes behind what people wore.

But don’t just look — become part of the story! Try on historical clothing and experience what it was like to dress and work like your ancestors. From ancient times to more recent generations, which era will you choose to travel back to?
