The Bugbrooke Garden Birdwatch 2026 is taking place on 23rd – 25th January.

This year it is being run by the Bugbrooke Environmental Working Group. At a time when the changing climate is impacting wildlife and our countryside, it is really valuable to continue tracking the number and distribution of birds in our gardens.

A tally form can be completed online here: https://forms.gle/SRzV6ha9d3QkgZBC6

The forms need to be completed and submitted online by 14th February.

Thank you and good luck with your birdwatching! Please get in touch by email ([email protected]) if you have any questions and feel free to share the Birdwatch details with anyone else who might be interested in taking part.

It may be milder today, however the Met Office has issued another weather warning of snow for Northamptonshire from 6pm Thursday (8/1) to midday Friday (9/1).
Make sure you keep yourself up-to-date with forecasts, especially before travelling, and expect some disruption.

This time of year, when temperatures drop and conditions become unpredictable, being prepared can make all the difference.
Here are essential items to keep in your car boot this winter:
✅ Blankets or warm clothing and boots
✅ Ice scraper and de-icer
✅ First aid kit
✅ Torch and spare batteries
✅ Jump leads
✅ Non-perishable snacks and water
✅ Phone charger
✅ High-visibility jacket
✅ Shovel
✅ Grit or Sand

Being prepared means you can stay safe and comfortable until help arrives.
Share this with friends and family to keep everyone winter-ready! ❄️🚗

The parish council have received the following Information from Cadent:

Cadent will begin work from 5/1/2026 to update the gas network for safety reasons as we are funded by the government to update all gas pipes to the new plastic pipework. If your planned to be affected, you will receive a letter through the post explaining the works and how this will affect you. You will also get a visit from our CLO (customer liaison officer) to come speak about the works face to face. Please note we know this is the colder months however we can support you with some heating alternatives to make sure you stay warm whilst we do our works.

Our first place to start is Almond Close on 5/1/2026 - Our CLO has already popped round and dropped leaflets through the doors they have missed. Please call our customer line number if you have any questions about the works.

Please see attached Push Plan of the roads that will be affected during our time in Bugbrooke. The scheme number is EMGA263052 Butts hill crescent, Bugbrooke.

The Section 19 flood report has now been published in relation to the terrible flooding that occurred in Bugbrooke in November 2024. Councillors are disappointed that it does not provide clear explanations or solutions, particularly around how the flooding occurred and why the water receded so quickly. They are also concerned that the report looks only at Bugbrooke rather than considering the wider catchment area.
These concerns, along with the response from WNC to our feedback, will be discussed at the Parish Council meeting on Monday 12th January at 7.30pm at the Community Centre. All residents are very welcome to attend and share their views.

Please check your hedges and trees!
With winter evenings getting darker, it’s really important that footpaths are kept clear and safe for everyone. In several spots around the village, pedestrians including school children are having to step into the road to get around overgrown bushes and branches. This issue has been reported to the parish council by concerned residents.

Please check whether your property is one that residents have raised concerns about.

Late November is an ideal time to cut back foliage, as growth has slowed and it’s outside the main nesting season.
Now is the perfect time to:
Trim back anything overhanging the pavement.
Ensure there is enough room and head height for people to pass safely.
Help keep our village walkable and safe during the darker months.

Please remember: If vegetation is not cut back and it obstructs the footpath or highway, the Highways Authority may carry out the work and recover the cost from the landowner.

If you know a neighbour who might find it difficult to cut back their hedges, why not offer to help if you can?

Thank you in advance.
