Due to the heat, we're activating our Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) to support people sleeping rough.

Our teams will be carrying out additional welfare checks and offering bottled water, sun protection and advice on staying safe in hot weather.

If you're concerned about someone sleeping rough, please contact StreetLink.

🔴 The UK Health Security Agency has upgraded its Heat Health Alert for the South West to Red, the highest level available within its health alert system.

The alert is in place from 1am on Wednesday 24 June until 11pm on Thursday 25 June.

The Met Office Amber Extreme Heat Warning for our area remains in place, with exceptionally hot conditions and very warm nights forecast during this period.

🤝 Please check in on friends, family and neighbours who may be more affected by the heat.

If you're heading to the coast to cool off, remember that sea temperatures remain much lower than air temperatures. Enter the water gradually where possible and be aware of the risks associated with cold water shock.

🇬🇧 Today marks the start of Armed Forces Week 2026.

This week is an opportunity to recognise and thank the entire Armed Forces community — including serving personnel, reservists, veterans, cadets, cadet adult volunteers and military families.

Thank you for your service and dedication.

To mark Armed Forces Week, the Union Flag is flying from Shalder Hill throughout the week. On Armed Forces Day (Saturday), it will be replaced with the Armed Forces Day Flag.

📈 Update: Since we shared this post, the forecast for early next week has increased significantly, with temperatures currently forecast to reach around 30°C or higher from Monday onwards.

🌡️ We received an Amber Heat Health Alert from the UK Health Security Agency yesterday, covering the period until Tuesday 23 June.

Looking out of the window today, it may not feel particularly warm just yet! However, current forecasts suggest temperatures will increase from Sunday and remain higher into next week.

We don't need to tell most of you how to cope with a bit of warm weather, but please do keep an eye on friends, family and neighbours who may be more affected by higher temperatures.
