Last night our On-Call unit at Buckingham went back to basics, practicing pumps and ladders. These skills are essential for us and ensures we are ready when the time comes.

Alongside this they also practiced their Immediate Emergency Care skills, an enhanced form of first aid so we can further help those in trouble.

Due to the significant amount of winter rain we have received in the past week, we are seeing a lot of flooded roads in and around Buckingham.

Please make sure to pay attention to any Road Closed signs and if in doubt, find an alternate route.

Cars, unfortunately, will not turn into submarines when exposed to deep water. Please stay safe in this cold and wet weather ❄️

Roads to avoid:
• Ox Lane, Padbury
• Leckhampstead Wharf, Thornborough
• Addington Road Verney Junction

🔥 Have Your Say on the Future of On-Call Fire Cover in Buckingham

We are currently running a consultation about On-Call fire cover. Are you interested to know what is being proposed specifically for Buckingham?
🚒Remove the On‑Call fire engine at Buckingham and
✅Replace it with a Rural Firefighting Vehicle (RFV), a specialist unit with a dedicated 4x4 capability, designed for tackling; grass, fields and flooding incidents in a range of outdoor scenarios.

Why is this being proposed?
👉Buckingham’s On‑Call fire engine has had consistently low availability, in 2024/25 it responded to 15 incidents.
👉 The Rural Firefighting Vehicle only needs two firefighters to be available to be able to respond to an emergency. This means there will be an increased availability to be able to respond to more specific incidents when you really need us.

Discussing weekend plans?

⚠️ The Met Office have issued a Yellow weather warning for the region, in effect from 6am Friday 14 November until 6am Saturday 15 November. 🌧️ The warning will escalate to Amber between midday and 11:59pm today.

During this wet spell, please remember to:
🏠 Check flood risks, know if your property is at risk and have a flood plan + emergency kit ready.
💧 Stay safe in floods - charge phones, move valuables upstairs, park cars out of flood zones, and turn off utilities.
🚗 Drive with caution, if you must drive, slow down, stick to main roads, and keep extra distance.
🌊 Avoid floodwater, don’t walk, swim, or drive through it.

Tonight our On-Call crew at Buckingham are preparing for possible flooding this weekend by undertaking training using the LPP at the river in Buckingham Town Centre.

LPP stands for Light Portable Pump, and we can use this to lift water from rivers, ponds and flooded areas.

Keep an eye on the weather reports this weekend 🌩️

Today, we were proud to stand alongside our community at the Buckingham Remembrance Parade. As we paused to honor the bravery and sacrifice of all who served, we were reminded of the strength and unity that bind us together. Lest we forget.
