Our absolutely fantastic Year 6 children had a wonderful time away on Dartmoor last week for their residential. We spent the week, Monday to Friday, at Pixies Holt. Our days were filled with fun activities and adventure!

Our activities consisted of:
team building activities and orienteering
Mountain biking
hiking up moors
Scrambling and weaselling on tors
caving
archery

Despite the changeable weather, sun one minute and pouring rain the next, as well as very strong wind on top of the tors, these brilliant children didn't complain and got stuck into all of the activities showing their superb resilience and determination.

We also had a birthday mid week so had a disco and played some traditional party games.

The staff who went with the children were unbelievably proud of all of them for the way they challenged themselves, overcame some of their fears, embraced the activities and really gave it 100%.

Our super Year 6 children had a lovely and relaxing post SATs treat at Buckfast Abbey today. They took part in some very calm art-type activities making their own mosaics and creating illuminated letters. They also completed a reflection walk thinking of their time at primary school.
There was also a lovely area for break times and of course, the weather was glorious today.
What a way to end this busy term.

Today the children took part in some brilliant Science experiments from Energy Edd at Fun Science.
They did some chemical reactions, made slime and explored electricity with the Van de Graaf generator with some hair raising results!

On Tuesday, we had the KS2 cross country event over at Stover School. We took our whole KS2 to take part.
The children were absolutely amazing. Their behaviour was superb, they all tried their best and finished their race even if cross country isn’t their sport. This showed real resilience and courage. We also had some top 10 finishers too!
There were 10 schools that took part and we came third in the Year 5-6 races and fourth in the Year 3-4 races overall.
We are very proud of all of the children. They represented our school brilliantly.

We just want to say a huge WELL DONE to all of our fantastic Year 6 children for all the effort, determination and resilience they showed during their SATs. They did themselves and all of us at Buckfastleigh Primary School proud.
To help celebrate the end of the SATs, the children received their leaver's hoodies. It was lovely to see the all the different colours the children chose.
They also had some fun tearing up all their revision papers and creating paper snow!

KS1 games at SDCC
Our lovely Year 1 and 2 children had a games event at South Dartmoor Community College last week. They had a go at various athletics type sports such as jumping over hurdles, throwing a javelin (foam) as well as some striking and fielding.
The children were absolutely brilliant and had a great time. They conducted themselves impeccably. We are very proud of them all.
Thanks to DSSP, our sports partnership for hosting the event.

Our lovely children in Year 3 had a trip to the local library today and were shown around. It was great to see how enthusiastic they were to look through the books available.

The librarian was on standby to guide (and read) with the children. The staff have always been incredibly helpful whenever we have visited. If a book you want isn't on the shelf, it can be ordered in.

Reading is such an important skill for life and and the library is a superb facility to have in our community to help promote this.
