Our Julia proudly represented and flew the standard for Buckfastleigh this morning at a ceremony to remember those buried at Wolborough Cemetery, including Commonwealth war graves and Canadian servicemen far from home.

This annual act of remembrance by Newton Abbot RBL reflects a shared connection with their twinned Royal Canadian Legion branch in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where veterans and volunteers honour the graves of servicemen who lost their lives while training in Canada during the Second World War.

It acts as a simple but important reminder that remembrance is not only about major anniversaries or national ceremonies - it is also about quiet acts of care, respect and continuing memory across generations and making local connections.

On this damp D-Day, thought I'd share some photos of our Poppies looking a little less battered than they did this morning.

On this day 82 years ago, tens of thousands of courageous British and Allied soldiers, sailors and aircrew took part in the D-Day landings, the largest seaborne invasion in history.

Today we remember the service and sacrifice of all those involved, commencing the liberation of France and Western Europe and turning the tide in the Second World War. Together with personnel from the United States, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Denmark and Poland, British forces showed immense courage, and endured great sacrifice.

Found this lovely little creature in the Memorial Garden today. Found him a nice new hedge home to live in as wasn't sure he'd find enough to sustain him there. Good luck little guy.

Whilst visiting York we paid our respects at York Minster to Ernest William Bradshaw (Avril's Uncle) who was Bomber Command Sqadron 10 and was shot down and killed in York on the 13th March 1945 during German Operation Gisela. He was buried on the day he was due to get married at only 26 years and who flew 36 missions during World War 2.

The final figures are in for the Poppy Appeal. In 2025 Buckfastleigh raised £4,719.65.

The full Poppy Appeal total was an extraordinary £54.1 million, which is a 5% increase on the previous year.

Thank you to everyone who donated and supported one of our events last year 😀
