With spring comes big boys toys!!! Last week volunteer Chris N used his considerable digger skills carrying out general ground works around the Birks. Ably supported by the team, Chris put down additional stone to the car park, tidied up around the stone bench, improved access to the outside barn (although at present this building is out of use), drain work around the grounds to divert excess surface water and created the foundations for the ‘Birks Artwork’ that will be installed later this year. 2025 saw the Birks subjected to its worst dry spell ever, requiring us to cancel a number of bookings through lack of water. The whole valley had concerns they would run out of water, so last week work on the catchment pond was done to increase its storage capabilities. Only time will tell if this has been successful or not.
Still full on energy, Andy CS insisted on carrying on tiling the undercroft when the digger work was finished.
