Dogs in the Churchyard

The Town Council politely reminds all visitors walking through the churchyard that dogs must be kept on a lead whilst within the churchyard grounds.

We appreciate the cooperation of dog owners in helping to maintain a respectful and safe environment for all visitors.

The Town Council is pleased to announce that a new bench has been installed at the top end of the cemetery.

Sadly, over the last couple of years, the benches previously located at this spot were destroyed by vandals. The most recent bench had been kindly donated to the Council, recognising what a lovely place it is for people to sit, reflect, and enjoy the beautiful views. Unfortunately, that bench, along with the nearby litter bin, was vandalised in October and had to be removed.

Earlier this year, the gentlemen from Men’s Shed Bromyard approached the Town Council to ask if we would like them to build a replacement bench. While we had concerns about installing another bench following the previous acts of vandalism, we did not want the actions of a few individuals to deter us from maintaining this special spot for the community, and we were delighted to accept their generous offer.

As you can see, the new traditional bench is beautifully made and perfectly positioned to take in the stunning views of the Bromyard Downs.

The Town Council would like to extend its sincere thanks to everyone involved in building and installing the bench. Your kindness and community spirit are greatly appreciated.

Update following the Annual Town Meeting

Bromyard and Winslow Town Council wish to provide a further update following the Town Meeting held on 20 April, where residents raised serious concerns regarding the condition of the Hop Pole Hotel.

While planning enforcement powers rest solely with Herefordshire Council as the Local Planning Authority, the Town Council has continued to press for action. At the meeting, the Chairman of the Planning and Economic Development Committee, Cllr Roger Page, agreed to convene an extraordinary meeting with the owners of the Hop Pole and the relevant Planning Case Officer.

At present, it has not been possible to proceed, as the attendance of the key parties has not yet been secured.

The Town Council understands that the Hop Pole has once again been placed up for sale and is due to go to auction today. Following the outcome of the sale, the Town Council will look to proceed with a meeting with the new owners if necessary.

The Council wishes to reassure residents that it has taken an active and ongoing role in pushing for the regeneration of the Hop Pole. Concerns relating to the deteriorating condition of the building and public safety have been formally raised with the appropriate authorities and will continue to be pursued.
