*Moderation policy*
In general, we don’t moderate posts – except on the rare occasion that someone has used offensive language or made libellous allegations about named or identifiable individuals on our page. We have a duty to protect our staff and volunteers, so while deleting comments is totally out of character for us, our legal position is that any post containing a libellous accusations, should be removed. If an individual continues to post offensive, threatening or libellous content then we’ll be forced to block that person from the page. We won’t tolerate postings, content, or links that are racist, sexist or homophobic. We also don’t permit linking to or posting any content which endorses illegal activity, or any activities against the values of the National Trust. Look and DO touch! Local sewing group Stitch Cotswold have made samples of the costumes in the Threads of Identity exhibition. These pieces encourage you to have a closer look and feel of the craftsmanship of the costume collection.

Make sure to ask the room guides to show you these beautiful handsewn samples during your visit.

Stitch Cotswolds will be holding demonstrations on Saturday 26 September to show how different techniques were usd when the costumes were originally created.

Dahlias of all shapes, sizes and colours have filled the gardens at Snowshill

With the summer months drawing to a close, we wanted to spotlight a item in the collection as a final farewell to the sunny season 🐚

This item is a small box in the form of a two wheeled cart in cardboard covered with shells with a wooden frame and handles. Inside the box there is a handwritten label which reads 'Bought on Yarmouth Beach c.1890 with coloured straw animal and rattle.' That makes it over 1

This item is located in the top floor of the manor, next to the 'A Hundred Wheels' room.

It's the last week of Summer of Play at Snowshill Manor and Gardens and what a summer it's been... but it's not over yet 🎉

When Charles Wade first saw the gardens at Snowshill Manor, they were an overgrown, muddy farmyard. Rather than being put off, Charles saw this as a ‘happy chance to create a garden of interest’.

He employed the assistance of Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott, a distinguished Arts and Crafts architect. The Arts and Crafts Movement was a reaction to industrialisation and aimed to restore simplicity to design. The movement viewed the garden as an extension of the house, with garden rooms, topiary and overflowing boarders.

At Snowshill, this was created through different levels of terraces, which Charles labelled as ‘Courts’ to emphasise their importance as rooms of the house. In summer this was especially true, as Charles would sleep in the loft of the cow byre, and bathe in one of the sunken pools in the morning.
