Update on the proposed Fire Station closures 🚒

Following the public consultation and extensive lobbying by me and my colleagues in Parliament, I am relieved to hear that the planned Fire Station closures will not be going ahead. During my meeting with the Fire Minister last month, I called for the funding of Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to be lifted, to the average of other fire and rescue services across the country and this call has been answered.

This means that Cranborne Fire Station will remain open and the firefighter’s jobs at Hamworthy will be retained. I am in frequent discussion with the Chief Fire Officer and members of the Fire Authority and have shared my thoughts about how we can further modernise the service, to reflect the changing needs of our community and the changing climate.

I will continue to speak up in Parliament for a full funding review that recognises that rural and coastal communities require a different formula as the demographics are different and the cost of delivering services are higher.

Thankyou to everyone who came to our fantastic Spring Quiz last night! Eight teams battled it out for fabulous prizes and we all enjoyed a delicious meal. Great food, fun and company was had by all and hosted by Quiz Master Vikki Slade MP. We'll see you at the next one!
