๐Ÿšธ Have your say on a proposed new 20mph zone in Brixham

Torbay Council is consulting on plans for six new 20mph zones around schools and colleges across Torbay โ€” including one right here in Brixham.

๐Ÿ“ Mayfield Chestnut Centre, Brixham is one of the locations being considered, with the proposed zone also covering nearby residential roads used by school children.

The locations have been identified because of the level of interaction between pedestrians and vehicles, while previous 20mph schemes have received strong support from local communities.

Lower traffic speeds can help to:
๐Ÿšถ Give pedestrians more time to react
๐Ÿš— Give drivers more time to respond
๐Ÿ”‡ Reduce traffic noise
๐ŸŒฟ Improve air quality
โš ๏ธ Reduce the risk and severity of collisions

And these areas aren't just busy during school hours โ€” school facilities are often used by children and adults outside the school day and during the holidays too.

The proposed 20mph limits would apply 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and would be mandatory, with enforcement carried out by the police.

๐Ÿ“ฃ If you live near, use or travel through the Mayfield Chestnut Centre area, we'd encourage you to take a look at the proposals and have your say. You may also have an interest in the other 5 zones being proposed, including around South Devon College

Paper copies of the consultation survey are available to collect from the Town Council office, within the Town Hall, Brixham during our opening hours.

โš“ Merchant Navy Day | 3 September

Today we remember and thank the men and women of the Merchant Navy, past and present, whose work at sea has played such an important role in keeping our nation supplied, connected and protected.

For Brixham, this is a particularly significant day. Our town has a proud maritime heritage and was once known as the โ€œMother Port of Trawlingโ€, with Brixham fishermen travelling far beyond our shores in pursuit of their livelihoods.

During both World Wars, local fishing vessels and their crews were drawn into the wider war effort, with vessels lost and fishermen called upon to serve. Brixham's maritime community made a significant contribution to the nation's war effort, both at sea and from our harbour.

Today at 10.30am there will be an unveiling of a new heritage Information Board honoring the Merchant Navyโ€™s vital role in the victory of WW2 held at Churchill Gardens, Brixham. See link for details: https://fb.me/e/f07XyEuMl

As an Armed Forces Covenant signatory, Brixham Town Council is proud to support and recognise our wider Armed Forces and maritime community.
