🌿 A great evening of balsam bashing! 🌿

A huge thank you to those who joined us last night for our final Great Big Green Week volunteer session at Eastwood Farm.

Together we’ve made fantastic progress tackling Himalayan Balsam over the past two weeks, focusing our efforts on beeses meadow to help to protect native plants and wildlife 💚

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has joined a work party, evening session or ranger-led event during Green Week. Every pulled balsam plant makes a difference and stops them propagating further 💪

Here are a few photos from last night’s session…

Notice it's been a bit blowy recently? 💨

Don't let that put you off a visit to Eastwood Farm, where even on a windy day there's still lots to enjoy 🌿🦋

🌿 Evening balsam bash — done!

Last night we headed out for our second Great Big Green Week volunteer work party, focusing our efforts on Beeses meadow. We’re now starting to see a real difference in this one area, which is wonderful to see. Thank you to our volunteers for all their efforts 💪

We have one more Green Week session next Wednesday evening if you’d like to help finish the job 🌿

🚨 The balsam won’t pull itself… 🚨

After a brilliant session on Saturday, we’re back out again tomorrow (Wednesday) evening helping tackle Himalayan balsam at Eastwood Farm 🌿

The plants are big, they’re satisfying to pull, and with another good turnout we might just clear most of the balsam around Beeses Meadow 💚

No experience needed — just come along and join the fun. Please dress for the weather, cover arms and legs, and wear sturdy shoes. Gloves recommended.

📅 Wednesday 10 June
🕡 6:30pm

We’ll finish with a drink and a chat afterwards, so bring a mug, glass, bottle, can, snack… or just yourself ☕

Meet at the container as usual. Any latecomers will find us at Beese’s Meadow.

💚 June Work Party / The Great Big Green Week 2026.

🌿 Yesterday we kicked off Green Week, where our volunteers did a fantastic job of Balsam Bashing the lower meadow here at Eastwood Farm.

☔️ We had a great turn out of volunteers of all ages, who did a great job despite the rain. Thank you for all your hard work! 🙌🏽
Special shout out to our volunteer Susie who kindly invited us in out of the rain for tea and cake. ☕️

🎥 We were also joined by a film crew who are working with WWT (The Wetland Charity) on a short film project which spotlights the work of Bristol community and volunteer groups like The Friends Of Eastwood Farm.

🌿 Are you interested in getting involved with The Great Big Green Week? Why not join us for another Balsam Bash & Evening Social on Wednesday 10th June 2026 at 6.30pm - 9pm.
