The history of the Floating Harbour goes back centuries, and without Underfall Yard there wouldn't be a harbour at all!

Learn more about the history of our site through our interactive tours, where you can visit our Victorian-era workshops and take an exclusive look at the mechanisms that keep the harbour alive. You even get a 20% voucher off our cafe so you can enjoy your lunch with us afterwards.

We have two dates to choose from, so make sure to sign up today via Yuup.

Operating the slipway in the heat is easy for the team at Underfall Yard, like water off a duck's back!

Visit us today to get a closer look at the newest vessel on our slip. De Jonge Iede, known for its vast collection of rubber ducks, is with us for a short while for a ten-year survey and repainting of her hull.

Find out more about her history - and why there are so many ducks - on the slipway page of our website.

The wobbly nature of The Girdlestone Bridge has been a huge topic of conversation! Kids love to feel like they are walking on water, while I've lost count of the number of times dog owners have had to pick up their dogs and take them across!

By following the grey connectors that travel across the walkway, you can make your crossing a bit more stable. Your reward for reaching the other side? A nice, refreshing meal or drink at Underfall Cafe!

Three years ago, Underfall Yard was the victim of a devastating fire. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the fire destroyed several boats and workshops dedicated to maritime crafts. It gravely impacted the workers and volunteers at the Yard, as well as the neighbours and local community.

For three years, we have been committed to bringing back what was lost in the fire. We have curated different community events to bring people back to the Yard, and the outpouring of support from individuals and businesses has been overwhelming.

In those three years, and due to the generosity of Bristol's population and beyond, we have raised over £460,000 to reinstate the Yard back to its traditional look. We are over the moon to be less than a year away from completion.

As a registered charity, we rely on the support of the public to reach our goals of preserving the site and the maritime community. We have launched a new fundraising page on Zeffy, where 100% of your donation goes directly to us. Every penny helps us to bring the Yard back to the working boatyard we all know and love.
