The newer formal areas of the garden, notably the glasshouse garden are looking established, enclosed by hedging and pleached Malus “Red Sentinel”. The purple glasshouse is in full production mode and also houses a collection of semi-hardy exotics. The old glasshouse is now home to a cactus collection. The more informal parts of the garden retain their relaxed contemporary feel with colour themed
gardens, perennial and annual flower meadows, a birch grove and streamside garden. In spring the woodland is filled with snowdrops, wood anemones, primroses and bluebells with hundreds of tulips giving colour throughout the garden. In summer the meadows and gravel garden provide the “wow” factor. The gravel garden is filled with colour, shape and movement achieved by a tapestry of planting. Autumnal fireworks are provided by late perennials, dahlias and grasses. Grasses are used extensively to reflect the surrounding landscape and link the garden to the Mendips to the south and Blagdon Lake to the north. The “heart” of the garden is the compost yard where we make our own organic compost, compost teas and plant tonics to keep the garden in good health. Visitors can enjoy homemade teas, light lunches and supper in the tea room or on the tea terrace, with panoramic views over the veggie garden to the Mendip Hills beyond.
