A number of residents have contacted me with concerns about reports that the Downend Morrisons Local and Post Office may be facing closure.

I have spoken with staff, who confirmed that a consultation is currently underway and that they expect to hear the outcome on 16th July.

It is obviously very worrying for those whose jobs are at risk, as well as for residents who rely on the Post Office and local shop, particularly as we no longer have a bank in the area.

I have written to Morrisons to seek clarification and to raise the concerns residents have shared with me.

Morrisons have said it's a "tough but necessary decision because of the UK government's policy choices such as the increase in the National living wage and National Insurance"

I will keep residents updated if I receive any further information.

🚮♻️Local residents are understandably frustrated!!

Many residents have been in touch with me reporting issues with missed waste collections.

We know 3,000 households across South Gloucestershire have been affected.

I’ve also been made aware of particular difficulties with nappy and hygiene waste collections, which can be especially distressing for families and those caring for vulnerable people.

Communication during this disruption has not been good enough, and I know from residents that trying to report problems or get updates has often been very difficult.

Please do let me know if your waste has still not been collected and I will help report.

[email protected]

I have asked the council to Provide a clear and realistic timeline for catching up all missed collections, explain why existing measures were not sufficient to prevent this level of disruption and set out what immediate steps will be taken to ensure the fleet is resilient in future periods of extreme weather and improve communication with residents during service failures so people are kept properly informed

Residents deserve a reliable service and clear communication, especially when things go wrong.

🚚 Why your recycling collection might look different this week.

We are sorry there has been disruption to recycling collections. This was due to crews learning new routes, staff sickness and the impact of the recent heatwave.

This has caused a backlog which we are working on clearing.

To catch up, some recycling is being collected using a different type of vehicle that looks like a black bin lorry.

It isn’t being thrown away – recycling collected this way will still be sorted and recycled.

This is temporary and we will return to the normal recycling vehicles once the backlog is cleared. Most collections are still running as normal.

Please keep separating your recycling as usual.

The council has just informed me of the following road closures in Frenchay- it's sounds like the road works are for duct laying.

Local residents have raised concerns with fly-tipping and the dumping of a south gloucestershire bin in the Co-op carpark.

I've reported it to the council and asked if they can help remove.

Unfortunately if left it can attract more dumping of rubbish and become an environmental health problem. Aswell as looking awful and ruining our beautiful area.

Please do let me know if you find any fly tipping in Frenchay and Downend and will help report.

You can also report using the following link.

Please watch the following video by the RNLI presented by Jordan Wylie MBE at The Wave to launch there Float to Live campaign. 💙

When my children were young, I trained as a swim teacher. One of the most important skills I taught children was how to float, because it can save lives.

If you find yourself in difficulty in the water, remember: Float to Live.
• Tilt your head back with your ears submerged
• Relax and try to breathe normally
• Move your hands and feet to help you stay afloat
• It’s fine if your legs sink, we all float differently
• Practise floating in your local pool if you can

Please share this lifesaving message, you too could help save a life. 💙

Today MBE joined us at The Wave to launch our Float ...
