Thank you Canada Life for supporting our work day. With your help we achieved a lot. We work with hand tools to be selective as to which plants we cut back Today was an example as on a clump of nettles we found the eggs and caterpillars of the Peacock butterfly.

Hopefully the bat walk was enjoyed by the 16 people who attended.
4 people kindly let me know early that day they could not attend and their spaces were reallocated
It is sad to say that 15 were a no show with no explanation or apology.
Last minute problems are acceptable, but if we had been contacted anytime that day we could have done a shout out and those on the wait list would have been given a chance to attend .
If we hold another bat walk later in the year please be considerate and give everyone a chance. It has to be number restricted to give everyone the best experience and it costs the Friends approx £3 to £5 per head depending on numbers.
We want to hold future events and in a few months will be posting suggestions to guage the response and select the most popular

I am Jane, one of the Friends of Magpie I have just enrolled onto the Community Nature Reserve programme being run this year by South Glos and Avon Wildlife
During the year the plan is to identify and count species, and to develop pollinator corridors and pathways for wildlife. There will also be information about ponds
As this is for the community it will not only include Magpie but also any properties nearby that are interested in protecting wildlife.
The simplest things like a small hole in your fence for hedgehogs can make a great impact.
I will be able to raise questions you may have with other members of this project at a meeting in July and hopefully get you an answer
Hopefully over the summer you will join me at sessions identifying species at Magpiebottom.
Please share with me anyways you are helping so Avon Wildlife can monitor how effective this initiative is .
Also indicate if you feel that an email account dedicated just to this programme would be a good idea

Thanks to members of Hargreaves Lansdown who gave up their time to help us today we have managed to clear about half of the orchard.
It is encouraging to achieve so much in one day. They appreciated the fact that several of you thanked them for the work they were doing. So thank you for your kind words to them

Some good news.We have reports of 8 new ducklings on the pond, along with the 2 slightly larger ones.
