🤔Tyler Gets Curious About Volunteering🤔

Before joining the Youth Guarantee programme, 19-year-old Tyler had a few part-time jobs but couldn’t find a role that worked for them and their creative interests.

Through regular meetings and goal setting with their Career Coach, Tyler identified that they wanted to work in content creation and video editing but also had a short-term goal of finding a retail role🎬

Tyler made the most of every opportunity. They boosted their skills through the Youth Guarantee employability course, finishing with 100% attendance. They also took part in a creative research project with the University of Bristol, creating a short film about their experiences of unemployment🎞️

The break-through moment came through a work taster with We The Curious. The team created a placement that covered different areas: retail, hospitality, admin, marketing, front of house, and more!

Tyler completed an 8-week placement and felt their confidence thrive in the varied environment– they even enjoyed hosting a workshop for primary school pupils, something they had been anxious about beforehand!🌟

We asked Tyler for a highlight from their placement:

“Talking with staff and asking questions while sorting out a project was very nice. It’s nice talking about video with someone who’s far more accomplished than me. Also fiddling with the camera was great, I felt accomplished when I got it all sorted out.”📽️

Now, Tyler has expanded their volunteering into a charity shop role and is exploring their options further before starting college in 2027!🎓

✨🧽Liam’s Spotless Performance at Ashton Gate🧽✨

When Liam joined the South Bristol Youth Guarantee, he was feeling stuck.

He was struggling with his confidence, lacked experience, and had anxiety around trying new things – all leading to low motivation to find a job.

However, once Liam started working with his Career Coach, he built a CV, applied for volunteering roles, and joined our 4-week training course at The Park centre. On the course, Liam gained confidence, made friends, and boosted his employability skills🌟💼

With his newfound confidence, Liam felt ready to start a work taster at Ashton Gate Stadium working with the Housekeeping team as a Cleaning Team Member. Whilst working with the cleaning crew, Liam gained vital experience, showed courage, and found a role that he genuinely enjoyed🧽✨

Ashton Gate were so impressed by Liam during his placement, that he has been offered a role on the team – congratulations!🎉

We’re so proud of Liam for pushing himself out of his comfort zone - we hope that he continues to shine in his new role🌟

Liam was keen to highlight the growth in his confidence and was grateful for having people he could ask for help💚
