On Friday 8th May - 7 Artspace studio members ventured over to Chichester's to catch the William Nicholson exhibition as well as other key pieces from their permanant collection.

We also dropped in on to see John Piper's vibrant High Altar Tapestry.

A big thank you to Pallant House's Community Programme Team for their kind encouragement and hospitality!

THIS DECEMBER 13TH: FREE FESTIVE CARD WORKSHOP AT BRISTOL ESTATE COMMUNITY CENTRE!
Artspace will be running a Festive, inclusive workshop at Bristol Estate Community Centre again on Saturday December 13th from 2 - 4pm, this year the theme will be making seasonal cards (or alternatively decorations) of ‘Birds Of Peace’.
Rather than the traditional white dove of peace, participants are encouraged to get as creative and colourful as they like, using mixed media collage (paper, cards, recycled Christmas decorations, glue, paint, pens, glitter etc). No artistic experience is necessary and beginners are welcome! All materials will be provided, but you can bring along your own materials too.
The workshop is open to anyone on the Bristol Estate, and to all of our Artspace studio members. Artspace’s studio is also located on the Bristol Estate, and we are a part of the Bristol Estate Leaseholders and Tenants Association. We run on average 2 - 4 free workshops a year at Bristol Estate Community Centre, for individual residents and families. The aim is to help increase and access opportunities to be creative, lessen isolation, build community ties, and improve mental health for those on low income who may face barriers. It is also an opportunity for the community to learn more about Artspace and the work that we do.
Last year’s Christmas Card workshop was a great success, very festive and fun, so much so that many participants expressed their enjoyment and that they would like for the workshop to run again this year, and in the future. See below for photos of last years workshop, and the great cards that participants made. Regular Festive Cards are really nice to receive, but receiving something handmade with love is really special.

Our longstanding studio member and Trustee, Emily shared some good news this month.

She's showing an artwork in a thought-provoking group show at the Depot Cinema Restaurant and Bar in Lewes. The theme is "Structures" and it forms part of the ArtWave initiative in the Lewes District.

"Structures" is open every weekend between now and 21st September, so please do pop by for a visit if you're around.

For more details on this and other stories please visit the News section of the Artspace Brighton website; link in bio.

ARTSPACE STUDIO MEMBER FOCUS: Tessa Shares Her Work and Thoughts!

Tessa has been an Artspace member for a couple of years now, and is a valued contributor to our Thursday morning sessions. She is an experienced and skilled crafter, and has enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, stained glass amongst other things. Tessa had this to say about her lived experience, and how she feels about Artspace:

“I first joined Artspace in 2023 after being referred by my doctor. I’ve suffered from mental health problems for over 20 years, and apart from a trusted group of friends and my partner, I had been quite cut off. Artspace is a studio that offers support, and can be used by its members to create art. They were very receptive to me using it for my crafts. I find it a safe place to interact and be creative, and a place where I don’t feel judged. It’s liberating to find a place for arts and crafts which accepts members with all sorts of diagnoses and allows them to feel part of society again.”

Tessa has an instagram account , where you can see over 60 examples of her work. All of her work is for sale, and 100% of those sales have and will continue to be donated to charities that Tessa is passionate about.😊
