Message from Clinical manager Kerry Fay & Health Promotion Lead Debbie King:
What can we say, how wonderful are all the teams that work within the cancer and screening services in our local area?
When we approached Ikea to discuss the possibility of a single day in Churchill Square to promote Bowel Cancer Awareness month, we did not expect the enthusiasm we were met with. A single day became a week and encouragement from Ikea to invite as many Screening and cancer services we could muster in a very short space of time.
We know for definite that our week was well spent as we have had an uptake in enquiries, bookings and screening requests since then, and as we always say, if we can make a difference to even one person, it's a job well done.
A huge thank you to Andrew proctor and the Ikea/Churchill Square team for being so enthusiastic, approachable, supportive, professional and friendly.
Thank you also to the Breast screening, Cervical/colposcopy and Screening and Immunisations teams, the urology CNSs, The Brain Tumour Charity, the Sussex Cancer Fund, the Trust for Developing Communities with ACT on cancer together, Montefiore hospital and Change Grow Live and the community pharmacy services. Without you all, this event would have been very different. The potential to learn and grow is enormous and we are excited to see what we can achieve next time.
Not forgetting the amazing teams that helped promote Bowel Cancer Awareness month outside of this event. Hove Polyclinic Outpatients department, Princess Royal, Montefiore, Conquest Endoscopy unit and wards and Eastbourne endoscopy unit, you pulled out all the stops for our social media posts and we are so grateful. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten there was a prize promised for the best photo.
Lastly, and not forgetting, our colleagues and wonderful Sussex Bowel Cancer Screening Team and their amazing engagement with preparing and attending all the events throughout April 2026.
We are so lucky to live in an area that has such wonderful support.
