Pride Month is an opportunity for us to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and the progress made towards equality, while highlighting where we need to do more 🌈

Equal rights also means being treated equitably and fairly when it comes to mental health care - which requires us to create safe, affirming and culturally responsive environments for LGBTQ+ mental health.

LGBTQ+ people may experience various difficulties that mean they are more likely to face mental health struggles, such as discrimination, rejection, homophobia, transphobia or difficult experiences coming out.

At Pathfinder West Sussex, all our services are inclusive and some of our partners offer specialist services for the LGBTQ+ community.

Choir with No Name and Fabrica present: The Sound of Summer 🌻🌞

The Choir with No Name are SUPER excited to announce this year's summer gig, taking place in the beautiful surroundings of Fabrica. It's an intimate venue meaning tickets are limited, so make sure to snap yours up soon!

Joined by the inimitable Aflo the Poet, we are exploring the sounds of summer together through song, DJ sets, and spoken word. Expect cheerful summer vibes, vibrant festival decor, seamless transitions between spoken word and music, and a sprinkle of Choir with No Name joy & silliness at this intimate summer event.

Aflo the Poet (she/they) is a Brighton-based spoken word artist, activist and academic who embraces creative expression as a vehicle to disrupt the status quo and inspire social change. With a bold voice rooted in lived experience, AFLO uses poetry as a tool for resistance, healing, and radical honesty.

In our Young People's Service in Hastings, we create safe spaces for LGBTQ+ clients by fostering a non-judgemental, inclusive environment where everyone is respected for who they are. Our staff receive ongoing training around LGBTQ+ awareness and trauma-informed practice, and we work closely with clients to ensure they feel heard, supported, and empowered to express their identity without fear of discrimination.

Thank you to Peper Harow for the very generous donation of over 100 pairs of luxury socks! Many of these will be donated to our clients who will appreciate the kind gesture.

Peper Harow is based in Burgess Hill and we were lucky enough to receive a tour of the factory to see where the socks are made 🧦

Thank you to Snappy Snaps for kindly donating their used photo film canisters for our clients sleeping rough to upcycle into mini sun cream holders. They are the ideal size for clients to take away and use as needed. They also work out a fifth of the price of travel sized sun creams.

This support is particularly valuable, as research shows a higher prevalence of non-melanoma skin cancers among people experiencing homelessness.

Many of our projects, services and staff benefit from the support provided by amazing volunteers.

In particular, our Pathfinder service has benefited from 25 Peer Mentors in the past year, who support their community with mental ill health. Peer Mentors have had their own experiences with mental ill health, either experiencing it themselves or supporting someone else.

Thank you to our incredible Peer Mentors! πŸ’™

Thank you to the 7 amazing people who volunteered to support people experiencing homelessness at First Base πŸ’™

One of our volunteers is a former client of the service and has been successfully leading a cooking group which prepares meals which are then served to other clients. This volunteer is an amazingly talented chef and is able to work wonders with limited ingredients, as well as coaches clients to build kitchen and employability skills. His venison pie is a particular favourite!

Volunteers are incredibly valuable to us as they can help us facilitate day-to-day matters like cooking food and organising donations, freeing up time for the casework team to spend one on one with clients.
