🌍 SUSSEX ACF SUPPORT THE ACF INTERNATIONAL CADET EXCHANGE 🌍

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Sergeant Ben Lawson from Delta Company of Sussex ACF as the Army Cadets International Exchange 2026 Liaison Officer for Estonia.

Having served as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer for the past four and a half years with both Beds & Herts ACF and now Delta Company of Sussex ACF, Ben brings a wealth of experience, enthusiasm and dedication to this exciting International role.

Throughout his time in the Army Cadets, Ben has supported Cadets at every level, from Detachment to County, assisting with the management of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and supporting numerous events alongside the Royal British Legion and other charities. He has also broadened his expertise through additional training in Communications and Information Systems (CIS) and Adventurous Training.

One of the highlights of Ben's Cadet journey was completing his Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award, undertaking an unforgettable expedition through Bavaria, Germany and Austria. The experience reinforced his passion for ensuring that every Cadet has the opportunity to challenge themselves, grow in confidence and create lifelong memories.

As he prepares to support this year's exchange with Estonia, Ben said: "I am very much looking forward to representing our country on the international stage. I hope you all have a brilliant exchange, make lifelong memories, and build meaningful connections!"

🪖ADULT TRAINING🪖

This weekend we saw a number of instructors undergoing different forms of Fieldcraft training.

We ran an induction exercise for those working their way through their induction training with the aim of becoming a qualified instructor in the Army Cadet Force.

There was also a Fieldcraft Development Package focussing on key parts of the ACS Fieldcraft Syllabus along with with developing skills in delivering orders.

Along with this, we ran a Pre Frimely MQual course supporting and preparing our instructors who wish to attend the Frimley MQual course.

All our training was supported by some of our 4* Cadets who were exemplary in their conduct and instruction and passed on their knowledge and skills in a professional and respectful way.

👏HAPPY VOLUNTEERS' WEEK👏

This week, we are giving a massive shout-out to the incredible Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) who make everything we do at Sussex ACF possible.

From leading fieldcraft exercises and shooting, to teaching life-saving first aid and taking our cadets on unforgettable annual camps, our adult volunteers give up their spare time to inspire the next generation to achieve.

Whether they are teaching a new skill at a weekly detachment night or managing the vital paperwork behind the scenes, their dedication transforms the lives of young people across Sussex.

To all our Sussex ACF volunteers: Thank you for your energy, your time, and your endless commitment. You are the heart of our county.

Want to join the team? You do not need any military experience, as we provide all the training. Give something back, learn new skills, and make a real difference. Enquire at https://armycadets.com/adult-volunteers/im-interested-in-becoming-a-volunteer/

In early May the Adults and Cadets of C (Chinook) Company descended on mass to the training area at Pipingford Park for a weekend full of ACF training, assessment activities, and camping out in the amazing Sussex countryside.

Supported by an extremely capable group of Senior NCO Cadets, the 2 star cadets undertook their Field Training Exercise (FTX), putting their fieldcraft and tactics skills to work out in the field, under the watchful eyes of the Company Sgt Major and his team of expert FTX adults. 🪖

The 1 Stars were in Exped mode, navigating in teams around an 8km course, taking in some of the delightful hills around the training area, including everyone’s favourite Canada Road, carrying their kit for the weekend, and enjoying food cooked and eaten in the great outdoors. A fantastic introduction to the teamwork and skills that will be required for their next level of expeditions. ⛺🌲
Our BTS cadets, many for whom this was their first residential cadet experience, completed training and assessments in fieldcraft, navigation and campcraft. They also got their first hands on experience of cooking and eating ration pack food! 🥾🍴
Once eaten never forgotten.

The weather was extremely favourable (well done to the Training Officer for arranging this) and camping conditions were almost perfect (if you ignored the wind).
At the end of the weekend the OC C Company awarded star level passes and some well-earned promotions. Congratulations to all.

Congratulations to newly promoted Lance Corporal Benniman (No11) and Corporal Browne (No5). 📯

2 Star Badges – Awarded to LCpl Benniman and Cpl Browne! ⭐

The weekend, involving 152 cadets and adult volunteers was a huge success thanks to the hard work and commitment of all those involved. Well done everyone for providing such a great experience for the cadets of C Company, Sussex ACF. 👏🏻

👏A Company Promotions👏

On Thursday evening at Number 10 Detachment in Eastbourne, on a beautifully sunny evening there were a few well earned Cadet Promotions, those being Cdt CSM Benjamin Martin to Cdt RSM (10) Cdt Csgt Anscombe to Cdt CSM (14) and Cdt SSgt Walton to Cdt Sgt Maj.

The following was read out by A Company OC, Cpt Gio Bond:

Cdt CSM Benjamin Martin of 10 Eastbourne Platoon has consistently demonstrated the highest standards of leadership, commitment, and professionalism throughout his 4 years and 3 months in the Army Cadet Force. Widely respected by both cadets and CFAVs alike, he leads by example with maturity, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Over the past year, he has distinguished himself as the top student on the Master Cadet course in April 2026 and as a key member of the Sussex ACF team that secured victory at the Military Skills Competition in March 2026. His achievements reflect not only personal excellence, but also his commitment to supporting and developing those around him.

It is therefore fitting and well deserved that Cdt CSM Benjamin Martin is appointed to the role of Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major.

These amazing promotions were given out by the Deputy Commandant Lieutenant Colonel Gubby

🏆 Polished boots, perfect drill, and incredible teamwork! 🫡

Huge congratulations to our very own No 10 Eastbourne Army Cadets for a phenomenal performance at the Armed Forces Day Cadets Drill and Turnout Competition at Carter Barracks!

Both Team A and Team B gave it their absolute all, showcasing outstanding discipline and professionalism. Beyond competing for the prestigious Steve Williams Shield, our cadets were absolute superstars.

A massive thank you to Robin Funnell, the Eastbourne and District Veterans CIC, and all the military veterans who judged the event and shared their inspiring stories with the teams.

The big question... who won?
The results are top secret for now! They will be officially announced during Eastbourne Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June at 5 Acre Field. See you there!
