Craven Wood Volunteer Morning – this Saturday, 10am

After a six-week break, back to our volunteer work session in the wood.

A big thank you to everyone who helped build our second ‘dead hedge’ in May, these natural structures are fantastic for creating habitats and attracting wildlife. 🐞🌱

This Saturday, Ranger Andy will be leading some work to repair the steps up to the meadow area and would especially appreciate some extra pairs of strong hands to help with this task!

There will also be plenty of other jobs to get stuck into, including clearing encroaching bramble from the paths, a bit of scrub bashing, and litter picking.

We’d love to see you there.

🌿 The Whispering Trees are back! 🌿

A year ago, on a glorious midsummer day, we held the very first Whispering Trees guided walk in Craven Wood. To mark the anniversary, we're returning to the woods for another immersive journey of stories, listening, play, and connection.

Guided by the wonderful Jools Voce, this silent disco-style woodland adventure invites you to wander through the trees and tune into the landscape in a whole new way.

Craven Wood Volunteer Morning

It’s that time again: this Saturday 2nd May is looking warm and sunny, with rain not arriving until the afternoon.

Last month we built our first dead hedge (our “cake for nature”), a living structure designed to feed and shelter wildlife, and we’ll be continuing that work, possibly starting a second one in the meadow. There may also be some gentle bramble clearing in the hazel copse for anyone who fancies it.

We’ll meet at the southern end of The Causeway (BN2 0FP) for a couple of hours. Please bring gloves and wear sturdy shoes, everything else is provided.

We made a cake for nature and it's this brushwood pile! It might not look like much, but in an urban woodland like this, it's gold. Piles like this create vital habitat for beetles, badgers, wrens, slow worms and all kinds of insects, helping nature thrive right here in Craven Wood.

And the best moment? A woodpecker calling from the trees above us 🐦 We'll take that as approval.

Easter Saturday at Craven Wood 🌿

Join us this Saturday at 10am for a relaxed morning in the woodland. You can either plant spring bulbs in the meadow or help create a sculptural dead hedge - like the "cake" in the photo (but a bit wilder!) - turning branches and prunings into a beautiful habitat for wildlife.

It’s a simple, hands-on session (2–3 hours). No experience needed, just bring gloves and sturdy footwear.
