🚨 RNLI lifeguards are now back on patrol across Brighton & Hove beaches for the summer season! ☀️🌊

RNLI lifeguards are on duty every day from 10am to 6pm until 6 September, helping to keep beachgoers safe across some of the city’s busiest beaches 🧡

You’ll find patrols at:
📍 Dukes Mound
📍 Palace Pier East & West
📍 West Street / Seafront Office
📍 West Pier / Bandstand
📍 Hove Lawns

Additional patrols at Saltdean, Rottingdean and West Hove/Lagoon will return from 18 July.

If you’re heading to the beach this summer:

☀️ It’s hot out there, Brighton!

With temperatures soaring and many families enjoying the coast this half term, please remember one thing if you’re heading near the water: 🌊

If you get into trouble in the water:

🔹 Tilt your head back with your ears submerged
🔹 Relax and try to breathe normally
🔹 Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat
🔹 It’s OK if your legs sink, we all float differently
🔹 Once your breathing is under control, call for help or swim to safety

Cold water shock can happen even on the warmest days. Knowing how to float could save your life.

Enjoy the sunshine and stay safe out there 🧡🥵

“Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered.”

Three women tragically recovered from the sea off Brighton last week have now been identified as Jane Adetoro, and Christina and Rebecca Walters.

Jane, Christina and Rebecca were sisters, from the Uxbridge area of London.

The thoughts of everyone at Sussex Police are with Jane, Christina and Rebecca’s family, as the investigation continues into their deaths.

Chief Superintendent Adam Hays, Divisional Commander for Brighton and Hove, said: “I know this incident has had a profound impact on the local community in Brighton, and across the country.

“I’d like to reassure the public we will leave no stone unturned in our investigation to understand exactly what led to the tragic events of that Wednesday morning.

“This investigation will continue in earnest, with Jane, Christina and Rebecca’s family at its centre. I would ask that they are given the privacy to come to terms with this terrible tragedy.”

A huge thank you to Churchill Square for kindly allowing the RNLI to collect there this weekend 💙

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who stopped to chat with the crew, learn more about the station, and donate to support our lifesaving work.

Every penny raised helps our volunteers continue launching 24/7 to keep people safe along our coastline.

And of course… we couldn’t resist sharing another brilliant Fatboy Slim moment 📸🚤

Guy Addington from the water safety team has been in Brighton today to launch our Float to Live campaign.

It was windy today but we’re due some lovely weather for the bank holiday weekend and are expecting lots of people to be out enjoying the coast.

Please share our safety tips with your loved ones:

Float to Live could save your life.

Remember:
- Tilt your head back with ears submerged
- Relax and try to control your breathing
- Use your hands to help you stay afloat
- It’s okay if your legs sink, we all float differently

Practice these steps at a supervised location, like a swimming pool or lifeguarded beach so you know what to do in an emergency.

Yesterday evening, we launched following reports of four people in difficulty in the water near the southern end of Palace Pier on the east side.

Our volunteer crew carried out a shoreline search and made contact with four surfers in the water. No other people were seen, and HM Coastguard stood us down once confident the call related to the surfers, who had safely exited the water.

The lifeboat then returned to station.

Thank you to everyone who raised the alarm, and to our volunteer crew and shore crew for their response.

If you ever see anyone in trouble at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Even on warmer days, sea conditions can change quickly, so always check the conditions, wear the right kit and avoid entering the water alone.
