Candidates have been put forward for the Goldsmid by-election in Hove.
The contest was triggered after former mayor Jackie O'Quinn resigned from the council earlier this month.

Marine Parade Furniture
Robert Brown, one of our Kemptown councillors in waiting, posts “Over the years I’ve seen the degradation of the street furniture and the railings along Marine Parade, lamenting on why nothing was being done.
I decided I would look into what can be done, including getting a team of volunteers to re-do the railings. BHCC informed me that it would cost £3 million to get ALL the railings done (this was in 2024 so probably more now) and that the volunteers could not be used along the Marine Parade section due to “at height” work.
However, I still believe there are areas where we can support and assist.
BHCC responded to me this week that they had met with colleagues and local councillors for a site walk along Marine Parade to review the street furniture. Following that visit they have updated and expanded the condition survey that I produced last year. They are currently in discussion to establish what materials and resources are available to begin work on the benches.
I am so pleased that this is finally taking shape, having met with them in November 2024 to discuss options moving forward. I am also pleased that they’re using my conditions survey document for this process as a lot of work had gone into this.
