The Army Cadet Force is open to all young people between the ages of 12 and 18 who are in school year 8 or above. Sussex Army Cadet Force has 27 detachments covering the whole of East and West Sussex as well as Brighton and Hove. Divided into 4 Companies we also have a Corps of Drums, Signals and Kitkar teams. Our Headquarters is at Highcroft House, in Brighton - an old building, built within the

grounds of the TA Centre on Dyke Road, and its home to our Head Quarters staff team who usually meet at least once a week on a Monday night. Wherever you live in East, West or Mid Sussex, there is a detachment near you.

🎒🧭 DELTA COMPANY IS BACK! 🧭🎒

After the summer break, Delta Company’s Cadets returned to training in style, joining Adult Volunteers for a brilliant weekend in and around Angmering.

Cadets tackled navigation routes of up to 12km, planning and following routes, reading maps and putting their navigation skills into practice across the countryside. Back at base camp, they developed their expedition skills through campcraft and cooking, while also completing First Aid, Leadership and Basic Training.

For some, this was their first Army Cadet weekend and a chance to learn an entirely new set of skills. More experienced Cadets faced tougher challenges, developed their leadership and helped those coming through behind them.

Most importantly, the Cadets got stuck in, worked together and proved just how much they can achieve when given the opportunity. New skills learned, confidence built, friendships strengthened and plenty of memories made along the way, making this a thoroughly successful return to training.

Thank you to all the Adult Volunteers who made it possible, but the greatest congratulations belong to the Cadets who worked hard, supported one another and embraced every challenge placed before them.

The summer break is over. Delta Company is back in business! 💪

🌟 A RISING STAR IN DEFENCE! 🌟

We are incredibly proud to announce that former Sussex ACF Cadet Company Sergeant Major for Delta Company, Roberta “Bobbi” Sancha has been shortlisted for the Women in Defence Awards 2026, in the "Rising Star" category as a result of her hard work as a Cadet! 👏

And what a Rising Star she is!

During her time with Sussex ACF, Bobbi achieved an extraordinary 48 qualifications, mentored and supported more than 135 fellow Cadets, represented the Army Cadet Force before senior Civic and Defence audiences, and raised more than £1,400 for wounded veterans by completing the National Three Peaks Challenge aged just 15. ⛰️💪

The Women in Defence Awards recognise some of the exceptional women contributing to the UK Defence community. Around 115,000 women work or volunteer across the wider UK Defence community. To be singled out from that extraordinary body of talent is therefore no small achievement.

For Bobbi to be shortlisted amongst them, while still at the very beginning of her life journey, is a fantastic achievement and one of which the whole of Sussex ACF can be immensely proud.

And now, with Colonel Sahra Earley now leading Sussex ACF as our new Commandant, there seems to be something of a theme developing...

📣📣Congratulations 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 to CSgt Larry Stokes on achieving his C&G Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management. This is an equivalent to a foundation degree/HND.

This no mean feat, as well as undertaking his studies, CSgt Stokes not only runs a business and employs many people but he gives a lot of time to the Army Cadets, including his commitment to Eastbourne No 10 detachment, ACoy, ECoy, Senior Training and Fund raising for ACCT. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Well done on achieving your qualification CSgt Larry Stokes AfCGI. Brilliant achievement, the future is bright for Sussex ACF.

🥾🏕️ GOLD DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD EXPEDITION 🏕️🥾

This week, Sgt Ben Lawson of Delta Company swapped sides of the DofE experience, joining the support team for his first Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition.

Having previously completed his own Gold DofE, Ben was able to experience the Expedition from a completely different perspective, helping support Cadets and fellow Cadet Force Adult Volunteers through the challenges of a demanding Gold expedition.

Based from Halton Camp near Lancaster, the expedition took teams through the stunning but challenging terrain of the Forest of Bowland. ⛰️🥾

For Ben, it was also an opportunity to give something back:

💬 “Having completed my own Gold DofE, it was great to see the expedition from a different perspective and to support each cadet and CFAV through the challenges along the way. It was rewarding to play a small part in their own DofE journey.”

A fantastic example of how the DofE programme comes full circle, with those who have completed the challenge themselves returning to help the next generation achieve their goals. 👏

Well done to all the Cadets who took part, and to Ben for stepping up to support his first Gold expedition! 🥇🏕️

Cadets and adults from No. 27 Midhurst took time out from their summer break to support a fantastic local community event at the Stedham Wartime Weekend

It was a brilliant experience for everyone, giving our cadets the opportunity to step back in time and immerse themselves in the wartime atmosphere. They explored a fantastic collection of WWII militaria, climbed aboard military vehicles and enjoyed chatting with exhibitors and learning about their displays.

The cadets also put their fieldcraft skills into practice by creating their own small fieldcraft display before getting stuck in and supporting the event organiser with a variety of tasks throughout the day.

Their hard work was rewarded with plenty of well-deserved treats, including burgers, squash and some delicious homemade cakes! 🍔🍰

We also enjoyed some fantastic entertainment, with a live singer performing many well-known wartime songs, accompanied by a group of dancers.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing our cadets take centre stage as they formed up for a minute’s silence. Their participation was greatly appreciated by everyone attending and was a particularly proud moment for the cadets and adults alike.

A huge thank you to the organisers of the Stedham Wartime Weekend for welcoming us and allowing our cadets to play a small part in such a wonderful community event. 🇬🇧

Eastbourne Airbourne International Air Show, from the 13th - 16th of August was an extremely busy time for No.10 Detachment Eastbourne ACF throughout the four day's of the show.

Both the Cadets and CFAV's were engaged with both the public and the British Army personnel throughout the event, showcasing not only themselves but also Sussex ACF as a whole, talking about their personal experiences, and what it has brought to them personally and what the ACF has added to them as a person.

These guys were truly enjoying the weekend as a whole, and even got interviewed on Radio Airbourne by presenter and CFAV Phill Miles from NO.3 Detachment Hastings, they were asked about their personal journeys and what the ACF has offered them that they wouldn't have otherwise achieved, it made for great Radio, and with their Detachment Commander 2nd Lieutenant Di Mulkirens also in on the interviews she was pleasantly surprised at how professional they all were and how the ACF has added a huge plethora of skills to them going forwards.

FROM CADET CORPORAL TO ARMY TROOPER!

Former Cadet Corporal Cooke of the mighty No 15 Detachment of Delta Company has reached a major life milestone. After successfully completing the demanding 11-month Phase 1 course at the Army Foundation College, Harrogate, he has now passed out as Trooper Cooke.

For those who don't know, AFC Harrogate trains 16 and 17-year-old Junior Soldiers, combining military training with education and personal development. The 49-week-long course covers fieldcraft, skill at arms, physical fitness, military knowledge, battlefield casualty drills and the qualities expected of a British soldier. It also develops leadership, discipline, resilience and teamwork through sport, adventurous training and challenging exercises.

Trooper Cooke’s time in the Army Cadets provided excellent preparation for this demanding environment. Cadet training in fieldcraft, navigation, first aid, shooting, drill, fitness and leadership gave him a strong foundation of military knowledge. Just as importantly, it helped develop the confidence, self-discipline, teamwork and determination needed to keep going when training became tough. For young people who choose to pursue a military career, the Army Cadets can provide an invaluable insight and make the transition into Army life far less unfamiliar.

This is a tremendous achievement for Trooper Cooke, a proud moment for everyone at No 15 Detachment and Delta Company and - quite understandably - a very proud day for his dad (pictured).
