Brighouse High School

Brighouse High School Brighouse High School is a larger than average comprehensive school with 1365 pupils including approximately 325 in the 6th form.

The school operates on a split site with 11-16 year olds being based on the Finkil Street site and 6th formers on a separate site in the heart of Brighouse. Our learners come from four main feeder primary schools and the wider community of Brighouse and East Calderdale. An increasing number of students come to our 6th form from neighbouring schools in Calderdale and Kirklees. We are proud that our 'togetherness' as a school and a community is often recognised.

πŸ‡«πŸ‡· French Exchange 2026 - Final Day πŸ‡«πŸ‡·

Today we spent our last morning in school with our French partners, making the most of every opportunity before heading home.

Some pupils explored French literature, while others joined lessons such as PE, experiencing life as a French student.

We also enjoyed one final taste of French cuisine in the school canteen – a three-course lunch, no less!

The afternoon brought some emotional goodbyes as we said farewell to our hosts and new friends. It has been an unforgettable week filled with cultural experiences, language learning, and memories that will stay with us for years to come.

A huge thank you to our host families and partner school for such a warm welcome. Lasting friendships have definitely been made.

πŸ‡«πŸ‡· French Exchange 2026 – Day 5 & 6 πŸ‡«πŸ‡·

With no school this weekend, our Brighouse High pupils enjoyed spending more time with their host families, developing their language skills and experiencing French culture first-hand.

Maisie visited the stunning Bay of Arcachon, climbed the spectacular Dune du Pilat – the tallest sand dune in Europe – and took on the challenge of French β€œaccrobranche”.

Will enjoyed a trip to the beautiful Île d’OlΓ©ron and even spent time on his host family’s boat.

Zara explored Bordeaux, enjoyed some French shopping, and also tackled β€œaccrobranche”.

A fantastic weekend full of new experiences, cultural learning, and memories that will last a lifetime!

πŸ‡«πŸ‡· French Exchange 2026 – Day 4 πŸ‡«πŸ‡·

On Day 4 of our French Exchange, our students became honorary members of the red house, Pyragni, and joined their house trip to the vibrant city of Bordeaux.

The morning was spent taking part in a treasure hunt around the city, following clues, solving challenges and discovering interesting facts about Bordeaux along the way. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore the city while practising language skills and working together as a team.

In the afternoon, the group visited Le Frac-MΓ©ca, Bordeaux's renowned museum of contemporary art, where they were able to experience a range of modern and thought-provoking exhibits.

Another memorable day filled with culture, exploration and new experiences! πŸ‡«πŸ‡·

πŸ‡«πŸ‡· French Exchange 2026 – Day 3 πŸ‡«πŸ‡·

On Day 3 of our French Exchange, students spent more time at our partner school, continuing to experience life as French students and developing their language skills through everyday interactions.

Later in the day, the group travelled to the beautiful town of Saint Γ‰milion. They explored its charming cobbled streets, enjoyed a spot of window shopping and discovered more about the town's rich history.

A highlight of the visit was a guided tour of Saint Γ‰milion's impressive monolithic church and its fascinating catacombs, giving students a unique insight into the area's heritage.

To round off another fantastic day, everyone enjoyed an ice cream, ordered in French, of course! πŸ‡«πŸ‡·πŸ¦

πŸ‡«πŸ‡· French Exchange 2026 – Day 2 πŸ‡«πŸ‡·

Our French Exchange adventure continued on Day 2 with students spending the day with their host families as there was no school.

For some, it was an opportunity to relax and experience everyday family life in France, while others enjoyed a visit to the beautiful city of Bordeaux, taking in the sights and exploring one of the country's most famous destinations.

Days like these are a fantastic part of the exchange experience, allowing students to immerse themselves in French culture, practise their language skills and build lasting friendships with their host families.

🌟 Congratulations to our former student, Jacob Roberts, on receiving his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award! 🌟

We are incredibly proud to share this special milestone with our school community following Jacob's attendance at the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

Despite the extremely hot weather, Jacob and his family enjoyed a memorable day celebrating the hard work, commitment and resilience required to achieve the Gold Award.

Jacob's success demonstrates what can be achieved through commitment and perseverance. We hope his achievement inspires our current Bronze Award participants to continue their DofE journey through Silver and Gold, taking advantage of the opportunities available both at Brighouse High School and in the Sixth Form.

Congratulations once again Jacob. This is a fantastic accomplishment and we are delighted to celebrate your success. πŸ‘
