Can you spare a Thursday evening to help a child shine in the water? 🏊♀️
Bridport Leisure Centre is looking for volunteers to support our small-group classes for children with additional support needs and SEND swimming lessons.
These sessions are specially designed so every child can thrive. Groups are small with an experienced instructor and in-water helpers, so children get individual attention at their own pace, whether they’re building water confidence, learning basic skills, or working on strokes.
We’re looking for warm, patient people who can:
• Help in the water
• Offer reassurance and hands-on support
• Help keep the atmosphere kind, structured and fun
This is an unpaid volunteer role, but it makes a real difference. Many of the children who come along experience social anxiety, delayed processing, or simply need extra time and guidance. Your presence helps them feel safe enough to try, splash and grow in confidence. 🫶
Sessions take place on Thursdays, from 5.15pm (50 weeks of the year) and 6pm until 7.30pm (term-time only).
We’re looking for someone who can cover 2 or 3 sessions. This can be flexible; it doesn’t have to be every week.
You don’t need to be a swimming teacher. A love of helping children, comfort in the water, and a patient manner matter most. Training and support will be given. A DBS check will be required.
If you can help, we’d love to hear from you.
