Children are naturally curious and during Child Safety Week, we’re reminding parents and carers just how important home safety is when it comes to preventing burns and fires.

Simple changes can dramatically reduce risk, including:
• Keeping candles, matches and lighters out of reach
• Using back hobs and turning saucepan handles in
• Never leaving children unattended in the kitchen
• Installing fireguards around heaters and fireplaces
• Having working smoke alarms on every level of your home, check to make sure they beep

It’s also important to remember burn first aid:
❄️ Cool with cool running water for 20 minutes
📞 Call for help if needed
🩹 Cover with cling film or a clean dressing
Remember: Cool, Call, Cover!

Within this area of our website we have information and top tips on ways you can make your home safer, such as:

From 1st June 2026, the Co-op Local Community Fund is officially open and accepting applications for our latest funding round.

This enables you as Co-op members to choose from around 2,100 new local causes and decide how £3.5m million will be shared across their communities from October 2026 to October 2027.

We’ll be looking to support projects that;

· enable people to access food
· create opportunities for young people
· improve people’s mental wellbeing
· promote community cohesion
· build sustainable futures

As always, we’re also keen to support projects that promote and celebrate diversity and inclusion.

The deadline for applications is midnight Wednesday 24 June 2026.
