We’re delighted to share that Sam Smith has been announced as Chair of the Pride in Place Board

Pride in Place is an exciting 10-year national programme that puts communities at the heart of decision-making, helping to strengthen local areas, improve shared spaces, and ensure residents have a real say in how funding is used.

Here in Bridgwater South, the programme will bring investment over the next decade to support resident-led plans, enhancing local spaces and improving quality of life for everyone.

A key part of Pride in Place is collaboration, with local people working alongside the council and community organisations to shape priorities and future improvements.

There’s still time to get involved! If you’re interested in becoming a member of the board visit 👉https://www.somerset.gov.uk/business-economy-and-licences/bridgwater-south-pride-in-place/join-the-bridgwater-south-neighbourhood-board/

While the spring bulbs are resting quietly beneath the soil, ready to burst back into life next year, we’ve added vibrant bedding plants to keep things looking bright and cheerful in the meantime.

It’s all part of the cycle, with hidden bulbs preparing for the future and fresh blooms bringing colour to the present.

These seasonal displays also support biodiversity, following our approach to planting that helps pollinators thrive. By mixing longer-term bulbs with carefully chosen bedding plants, we’re creating spaces that not only look good now, but also support wildlife and future growth.

Today is

From traditional play equipment like swings, slides and climbing frames, to grassy open spaces, nature-rich areas and even grass mazes, our parks offer something for everyone , whether it’s active play, imaginative adventure, or simply room to relax outdoors.

These spaces are so much more than just playgrounds. They support physical health, boost mental wellbeing, help build social connections, and encourage creativity and exploration. They also give people the chance to connect with nature and enjoy the freedom of being outdoors.

Today, we celebrate the power of play in all its forms and the spaces that make it possible across Bridgwater
