Somerset Matters

Somerset Matters All the latest news and views from local Conservatives across the county of Somerset - because Somerset Matters to the Conservatives.

Serving Somerset residents is our number one priority at both local and national levels. Somerset Conservatives serves four out of the five parliamentary constituencies in the county. Until 2015, three of these elected Liberal Democrat MPs, and one a Conservative MP. On Thursday 7 May, the people of Somerset elected four new Conservative MPs David Warburton in Somerton & Frome, Rebecca Pow in Taun

ton Deane and James Heappey in Wells; joining Ian Liddell-Grainger who has represented Bridgwater & West Somerset since 2001. As well as electing five Conservative Members of Parliament, on Thursday 7th May across the county, the people of Somerset elected 152 Conservative District and Borough Councillors, plus a new County Councillor at a by-election. The Conservatives are the leading party in local government in the county, running Mendip, Sedgemoor, Taunton Deane, and West Somerset local authorities, as well as the County Council. South Somerset District is in no overall control. The Conservative Party relies on support from individuals giving up their time and donating money to help get Conservative councillors and MPs elected.
