Massive shout out to Milk on the Moors farm shop for welcoming Blue Watch Bridgwater Yesterday.

The crew had a fantastic opportunity to look around the farm and gain a better understanding of farming operations, including farm machinery, chemicals commonly found on farms, and how the milking parlour works. Opportunities like this are invaluable for operational crews and help us better prepare to respond safely and effectively to incidents involving agricultural premises in the future.

Building strong relationships with our local farms and businesses is incredibly important to us, and we really appreciate the time taken to show us around and share your knowledge.

To top it off, the team also treated us to some amazing milkshakes.

Thanks again from everyone at Blue Watch Bridgwater πŸš’ πŸ₯›

A big thank you to Homes in Somerset and the residents of Westfield House for allowing Blue Watch to carry out training with the Aerial Ladder Platform yesterday.

The crews gained valuable operational experience, helping ensure we are fully prepared for incidents of this nature.

We’re very grateful for the strong working relationship we have with Homes in Somerset and look forward to continuing training at other sites in the future.

MULTI PUMP EXERCISE!
Bridgwater Fire Station is hosting a large exercise this evening at the Hinckley Logistics Hub (Old Argos depot) near Jct 24.

This will be a fire simulation using synthetic smoke. Please don't be alarmed if you see pumps attending and smoke in the area. This is a great opportunity for us to practice working alongside colleagues from multiple stations and other agencies, testing our procedures and response plans.

Do you or someone you know use emollient creams? 🧴

These moisturisers are commonly used for dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis - but many people don’t realise they can also be highly flammable.

The oils in these products can soak into clothing and bedding, leaving a residue that can’t be fully removed by washing. If it comes into contact with a flame - a candle, lighter, or lit cigarette 🚬 - it can ignite rapidly.

Emollient use is a major risk factor in fatal fires, especially for people who smoke, are aged 65 and over, or have limited mobility.

The UK’s most experienced rope rescue practitioners will be pushing themselves to the limit at the UKRO Rope Rescue Challenge 2025 at Butlins, Minehead, on 12-13 November 2025.

It will be two days of intense competition as fire and rescue service teams tackle realistic, high-pressure rescue scenarios using live casualties – testing skill, teamwork, and operational effectiveness.

The challenge will bring together the very best rope rescue teams from across the UK. Members of the public are welcome to come and watch the challenges taking place.

More information is on our website. A link is in the comments.

We've launched our SAME4 campaign – raising awareness of the four key risk factors we see when investigating fatal fires in the home πŸ”₯

'SAME' stands for:

S – Smoking - especially indoors or in bed 🚬
A – Age (65+) - those over 65 are at higher risk πŸ‘±πŸΌ
M – Mobility - reduced mobility or mobility equipment blocking exit routes β™Ώ
E – Emollient creams - medical skin creams, used for conditions like for eczema, that can build up on fabrics and ignite easily🧴

When two or more of these risks are present, the likelihood of someone having a serious fire increases significantly.

We’re calling upon caregivers, family members, friends of vulnerable people, and medical professionals to help raise awareness among communities across Devon and Somerset.

If you know someone who may be at increased risk, you can support them by sharing this message or helping them access a free Home Safety Visit.

Visit our campaign page on our website for further details. Link in the comments below πŸ‘‡πŸΏ

Today, on September 11th, we pause to honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the tragic events of 9/11. We pay tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the firefighters, first responders, and countless heroes who ran toward danger to save others. Their courage continues to inspire us every day as we serve our community. Let us come together to remember, reflect, and stand united in resilience and hope. β€οΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
