Somerset Brick and Tile Museum

Somerset Brick and Tile Museum The Somerset Brick and Tile Museum is based in Bridgwater, and is dedicated to the local industry of brick and tile making. Open Tuesdays 10.00 am to 4.00pm

The Brick & Tile Museum is dedicated to the local industry of brick and tile making, one of the many labour-intensive coal based industries once found in Somerset. The core of the museum is the only remaining tile kiln in Bridgwater. It used to be one of six at the former Barham Brothers’ Yard at East Quay. It was last fired in 1965, the year that the works closed. Demonstrated inside the museum a

re the methods and processes involved in making the impressive variety of bricks, tiles, terracotta plaques and other wares that create the ‘look’ of Somerset towns like Bridgwater, Burnham and Glastonbury. The kiln is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, saved from dereliction in the 1990s when it became a museum. The Brick & Tile Museum is part of The South West Heritage Trust an independent charity committed to protecting and celebrating Somerset and Devon’s rich heritage. For more information:

What's your favourite garden bird or flower? 🌼🕊️

🪶We’ve been chatting about the little visitors we love spotting the most. 🐦‍⬛At the Museum we often see robins, pigeons and the occasional seagull — but Bridgwater is home to an amazing variety of birds. 🦆Along the River and Canal you might spot Grey Herons, Kingfishers, Mute Swans 🦢, or Grey Wagtails, and that’s before you even get to the beautiful garden visitors people see at home. 🦉

🌹And flowers… from bright sunflowers to delicate bluebells and classic roses, they endlessly inspire our imaginations. 🌷

🪷Tell us your faves — which bird or flower makes you smile when it appears?

(And if you’re feeling inspired … we’ve got a rather lovely clay workshop coming up this Saturday where you can create your own flower‑shaped bird bath. Just saying. Workshop: Ceramic Flower Bird Bath)

Only a few days to book! 🌼
🐦Workshop: Ceramic Flower Bird Bath is coming up on 23 May, and there are still a few spaces left for anyone who wants a relaxed, hands‑on session with clay at the Somerset Brick and Tile Museum. 🌺

🌸Spend two hours shaping, decorating, and bringing your own flower‑inspired bird bath or feeder to life — a beautiful piece for the garden and a genuinely calming way to switch off for an afternoon. No rush, no pressure, just clay, colour, and good company.

🔥Your finished piece will be fired and glazed, ready to collect a few weeks later.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to book… this is it.
