⚠️ Help keep our crews safe

Used needles, syringes and other sharps should never be placed in household or public litter bins.

Whether they're used for a medical condition, or any other purpose, sharps must be disposed of safely through the appropriate collection service. Needles placed in bins can cause serious injuries to refuse and recycling crews, street cleansing staff and members of the public.

✅ Use an approved sharps container
✅ Arrange a sharps collection when the container is full
❌ Do not place loose needles or sharps containers in any bin

🏡 A new lease of life for a long-term empty property in Maesteg

A property on Neath Road, Maesteg that has been empty for 30 years is set to be given a new lease of life after we were successful in securing a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) to help bring it back into use.

🤝 Working with Shared Regulatory Services, and with support from the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Empty Property Enforcement Fund, we have taken action in line with our Empty Property Strategy.

📅 The property is now due to be auctioned in October 2026 and we will then work with the new owner to support the renovation and bring this empty home back into use.

We do encourage you to gain a bit of life experience, but age alone doesn't determine your ability to provide the care, support and stability a child needs.

Our new Bridgend Works initiative is underway!

Bridgend Works involves a new team taking action to make communities across Bridgend County Borough cleaner and greener, making a real difference to places you see every day.

The new team will help with issues such as flytipping, as well as improving public areas and town centres with additional grass-cutting , litterpicking, jet-washing, painting and more.

This new initiative will build on existing services, as well as introducing new projects to transform our communities, making sure that ‘Bridgend Works’ for everyone.

Working alongside existing council services such as highways and waste, the team will work on hotspot areas that need rapid and responsive action.

⚽️ Boost for community sport at Bryntirion Comprehensive School

The artificial sports pitch at Bryntirion Comprehensive School has been transformed into a modern community facility, creating more opportunities for pupils, local residents, grassroots teams and sports clubs across the county borough to keep active and enjoy sport. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

The pitch now features:
✨ A full-sized 3G surface
✨ New fencing and goal posts
✨ Modern dugouts
✨ Upgraded floodlights
✨ A spectator zone with a dedicated walkway

Delivered through our Community Asset Transfer scheme, the project brought partners together to create a facility fit for future generations. 🤝

Working with the Cymru Football Foundation, Welsh Government and Sport Wales, we secured a six-figure investment that will help to provide better opportunities for residents to stay active and enjoy sport for years to come. 💪⚽️

🚧 Progress on replacement Blackmill bridge

Plans to replace the A4061 river bridge at Blackmill have moved a step closer, with local company Centregreat Limited appointed to deliver the project.

The main deck of the bridge will be completely replaced after routine checks previously identified significant cracks and other issues underneath the bridge.

The replacement is essential to keep this important route into and out of the Ogmore Valley safe and open for the future. 🛣️

🔧 A programme of works is now being agreed with Centregreat as well as other organisations including utility companies.

📢 Residents, businesses, highway users and public and school transport providers will be kept informed as the programme develops, with engagement opportunities and regular updates provided ahead of work starting.

💷 The Council has secured £3.5 million in Welsh Government regional transport funding and our aim is to minimise disruption and complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.

🍎 Coming soon: Free School Meals for more secondary school pupils! 🎒

From the 2026-2027 school year, eligible pupils in Years 7 and 8 will receive free school meals because of a change to Universal Credit thresholds.

📅 Applications will open in the first week of September, with the new provision launching immediately afterwards.

⚠️ Please note: This is not a full roll-out of universal free school meals across all secondary school year groups. The new offer is specifically for eligible pupils in Years 7 and 8 only.

Already receiving eFSM (eligible Free School Meals)? You do not need to apply again – your existing entitlement will continue.

We’ll be sharing more information over the coming weeks, including who is eligible and if you need to apply.

Have your say on Active Travel in Bridgend County Borough 🚶‍♀️🚲

Residents are invited to attend upcoming engagement sessions to view the current Active Travel Network Map and share feedback that will help shape the future of walking, wheeling and cycling across Bridgend County Borough.

Active travel includes walking, wheeling, and cycling for everyday journeys, whether that's travelling to work, school, shops, leisure facilities, or public transport links.

We want to create an active travel network that makes walking, wheeling, and cycling easier, safer and more accessible for everyone. By doing so, we can improve health and wellbeing while strengthening connections between our towns and villages.📍
