The future of local sport took centre stage recently as Bridgend County Borough's finest athletes gathered for the launch of the ‘Halo Sport Foundation Awards’ delivered by the council in partnership with Halo Leisure.

The event celebrated 110 talented athletes from across the county borough, representing more than 30 different sporting disciplines, including surfing, athletics, surf lifesaving, para-table tennis, gymnastics, boxing, BMX and ice hockey. Selected for their commitment, achievements and competitive success, the recipients represent the next generation of local sporting talent.

This year's Foundation is championed by an inspiring team of Sports Ambassadors, all with strong connections to Bridgend County Borough:

• Helen Jenkins MBE – Olympian and two-time World Champion Triathlete
• Neil Robinson MBE – Paralympic Champion and GB Table Tennis Coach
• Rebecca Rowe – Multi-Sport International Athlete and Polar Explorer
• Ellie McCloy – World Champion Surf Life Saver
• Rebecca Sutton – GB and Wales International Swimmer
• Celyn Emanuel – Welsh International Netball Player

The Halo Sport Foundation is also part of a wider ambition to strengthen grassroots sport across Bridgend County Borough.

Today marks the start of Carers’ Week 2026!

Its an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the incredible contribution of unpaid carers across Bridgend County Borough.

Earlier today we raised the Carers’ flag at Civic Offices. We will also light the building blue and white this evening, and on the 14 June to mark the start and the end of this important week.

Every day, thousands of people provide unpaid care and support to family members, friends and neighbours who could not manage without them. Their dedication, compassion and commitment make a significant difference to the lives of those they care for and to our wider communities.

There’s plenty going on across Bridgend County Borough during Carers Week (8–14 June) with various events taking place.
