Attended the quarterly Governors meeting of Penybont School yesterday evening where we had to set the annual budget for the next education year.

Have to say, I'm pretty angry.

Pretty angry that the 6% budget cuts passed on to schools is making our education leaders in our Borough have to make impossible decisions as they seek to offer our future generations the best possible start to life and the best possible outcomes

6% cuts, and in "real terms" when we factor in inflation its a double digit reduction in budgets

Our teachers deserve better than this and our children certainly deserve better.

Whether its broken manifesto promises of increased investment in education or flawed funding mechanisms in how schools are calculated their "per pupil" settlements we need a change of administration in May 2027.

Every single Labour Councillor in BCBC has voted for 6% cuts to Education since 2022. They are the reason schools are submitting deficit budgets. They are the reason Head Teachers across our County are struggling with impossible decisions

We need an Independent administration at BCBC 2027 to fix our County

This Scrutiny meeting on Monday was such a difficult subject matter and report. Its importance however outweighs the difficulty.

We were required to scrutinise the report into how a Headteacher in North Wales was able to use his position to sexually abuse children over an extended period and how opportunities were missed to stop this earlier.

We had to look at this in relation to safeguarding our children here in Bridgend.

One of the most difficult meetings I have ever had to be part of.

Full credit to excellent Chairing by Councillor Freya Bletsoe, Oldcastle Ward and to every Councillor and Officer who took part in the scrutiny process to look at how we protect our children from such abuse.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

There has been a lot of noise over the last week or so from the BCBC Labour Cabinet about their "investment in Bridgend Bus Station" and how they are improving our town centre.

Well, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind them that this Labour Administration proposed closing Bridgend Bus Station just 2 years ago.

It was only the Independent scrutiny of this proposal that overturned that Labour proposal

Would have been nice to have been asked to join Cabinet members to mark this investment, but after 4 years of not being invited I can't say I am surprised to not receive the invitation

May 2027 cannot come soon enough, when we can get an Independent led administration and really improve our area.

A brilliant evening at the Friends of Heronsbridge School Ball last night.

Raising important funds to support the work of the school across the year.

An amazing charity, run by amazing people, supporting an amazing school, who educate amazing children.
