Why does a parish exist? ⛪️

Alongside worship, service and community life, the Church’s mission is to share the joy of the Gospel. Evangelisation isn’t about forcing faith on others; it’s about witnessing to Christ through our welcome, kindness, hope and joyful faith.

As Pope St John Paul II reminded us, every Christian is called to bring the light of the Gospel into the world around them.

May our parishes therefore be places of authentic welcome, joyful worship and living faith.

Jesus reminds us that our Father in heaven gives us the greatest gift of all: the Holy Spirit. But in the challenges of daily life, who do we turn to first - ourselves, or God?

The Holy Spirit is not only with us in difficult moments, but walks with us every day through prayer, Scripture and worship.

In a world that often feels busy, uncertain, and overwhelming, these words of Jesus offer a profound sense of comfort and hope. We are reminded that we are not alone on our journey. Through faith, we are called into peace, into purpose, and into the promise of something greater.

This May, take a moment to pause and rediscover the joy of knowing where our journey leads. Christ has prepared a place for us, and in Him, our troubled hearts can find rest.

This week’s reading invites us to look again at the familiar image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd, revealing a deeper and more challenging meaning.

In speaking about the gate, the sheepfold, and those who try to enter another way, Jesus draws on both the close relationship between shepherd and sheep in the ancient world, and the long tradition of leaders as “shepherds” of God’s people.

While many leaders failed in that role, using people for their own gain, Jesus presents himself differently - not only as the true shepherd who knows and leads his people, but also as the gate: the way into life in all its fullness.

The road of life often mirrors the journey to Emmaus.

Like the two disciples, we can miss recognising the Lord walking beside us. It was only in the breaking of bread. - and through the opening of the Scriptures - that their eyes were opened and their hearts set alight.

When we dwell in God’s Word, we too begin to see more clearly and encounter Christ more deeply. Where might God be walking with you today, unrecognised?

Some may not believe in God… but God believes in them. ✝️

In a world where unbelief is common, the story of Thomas reminds us that doubt isn’t the end of faith; it can be the beginning of something deeper. When Thomas encountered the Risen Christ, his doubt was transformed into a powerful declaration: “My Lord and my God.”

We all face moments of uncertainty: questioning God’s love, His plans, or whether real change is possible in our lives. Yet, like Thomas, we are invited to move from doubt to faith.

Faith grows when we hear the Good News, but also when we learn to speak it into our own lives. What might it look like to remind yourself today of hope, grace, and God’s presence?

This week's Spiritual Reflection is intended to lead us more deeply into our baptism.

It is important to realise that Lazarus was brought back to life – he was not resuscitated. This is not the same as resurrection, which in Scripture means a person being brought back to life in a brand-new body!

But his return reveals Jesus’ power over death and hints at the eternal life promised to us through him.
