Bredfield: Wildlife Friendly Village

There’s an article about Suffolk’s wildlife-friendly villages in the latest edition of ’White Admiral’, the journal of the Suffolk Naturalist Society. It’s jointly written by Stewart Belfield (Bredfield WFV) and Sophie Flux (Risby WFV). We’re spreading the word. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be an on-line version.

Many of our ponds have disappeared or deteriorated. One local farm, towards Debach, is turning the tide and building new ponds on the site of long-disappeared ‘ghost ponds’ (see photo). Very welcome ecological restoration! Please report to us any Turtle Doves that you hear or see around Bredfield this spring and summer. These beautiful, but highly threatened doves have been present around Bredfield in recent years. We will collate and pass on the records to the RSPB's national Turtle Dove survey. Between 1995 and 2018, we lost 95% of our Turtle Doves in the UK. We can’t help Turtle Doves recover if we don’t know where they are. Details at:
