Your new team representing Bredbury & Woodley on Stockport Council 👇

I’m absolutely delighted that our efforts to help Niki Meerman, Lib Dem Councillor for Bredbury & Woodley get elected to represent Bredbury & Woodley was successful last night.

The seat in Bredbury & Woodley had initially been forecast to be won by Reform by 6% but it’s clear that our message to voters to back a hard-working local champion in Niki was heard and resulted in the Liberal Democrats winning by 6% instead.

This shows the real importance of working together and we’ll carry that attitude and approach forward with myself, Cllr Rosemary Barratt for Bredbury & Woodley and Niki working together as a team to deliver the positive change our area needs. 💪

Our door is always open to listen to the views, concerns and needs of our residents, however people voted or indeed whether residents voted at all. You can email us, text us or phone us at any time or attend the regular Woodley & Bredbury Community Neighbours drop-ins to take part in our monthly local version of Question Time!

It's polling day today and an opportunity to elect a hard-working local champion for our ward. We need to make the right choice.

For the past three years, Joe and I have worked hard to make a difference in Bredbury and Woodley, the ward where our family has lived for the past hundred years.

What we need in Bredbury and Woodley is another local councillor who will work hard for the area to make improvements for the benefit of Bredbury and Woodley residents.

What we don't need is someone who is spreading division in our community and making sweeping statements about national issues which we, as local councillors, have no control over which is the messaging coming from the Reform candidate.

If you are a moderate supporter of the Labour or Conservative party or a progressive Green and you want to keep the divisive politics of Reform out of Bredbury and Woodley, I urge you to vote tactically and please lend your vote to Niki Meerman, Lib Dem candidate Bredbury & Woodley.

Niki is the only candidate who can defeat Reform here and we know she will be a committed and hard-working councillor for this area working with Joe and I to make further positive change.

WOODLEY EYESORE...NOT FOR MUCH LONGER! 👀

As some of you may know, during our election campaign we made a commitment to residents to do everything we could to get the large vacant 'Woodley Eyecare' building in Woodley Precinct re-opened in order to provide a service to the public.

We're pleased to say that after many months (and years) of active campaigning, the council has forfeited the lease and regained possession of the unit. The tenant, who has been using the unit for storage since the lease was signed in November 2011, has until the end of the month to collect their belongings - after which the unit will be advertised for commercial use with the new operator required to open per the condition of the new lease.

Our hope is that the council can secure a good tenant for the unit, with an opticians expressing genuine interest in opening up a practice to provide to service to local people - which will be of particular value to those elderly residents that struggle to get to Stockport, Hyde or even Berrycroft to access eye-care services.

We're grateful to council officers who have navigated this issue on our behalf and for the work of Stockport Lib Dems in listening to our calls for action and ensuring that progress has been made.

That support for our local area is one of the many reasons why we're backing the Liberal Democrats candidate Niki Meerman as the best choice for the people of Bredbury & Woodley at the local elections next Thursday. 🗳️

We’re delighted to have played our part in organising for a Community Noticeboard in Bredbury at the junction of Stockport Road East and Lower Bents Lane.

The request came from a local business owner Beverley Eves from The Steelworks through our monthly Woodley and Bredbury Community Neighbours Drop-in at St Barnabas Church.

Our thanks to council officers for facilitating this request and to the Woodley and Bredbury Community Neighbours Group for providing the drop-ins for local residents to attend.

As local councillors we are committed to support local residents to make our ward a better place to live. We hope that the Bredbury Community Noticeboard is well used and if you live locally, please check it out to find out what’s happening in our area. ✅

𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗩𝗘𝗟 𝗕𝗔𝗡𝗞 𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗗 𝗗𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟𝗢𝗣𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘

We have been notified that a consultation has launched for a proposed development of 141 affordable homes on the site of Gravel Bank Road Farm in Woodley.

More information about what is proposed can be found here: https://www.asteerplanning.com/gravelbankroad

Local residents will be receiving a letter today making them aware of a developer-led consultation to collect feedback in response to what's proposed. This will then inform a full planning application which we expect to be submitted sometime in May.

The proposed 141 affordable homes are a mix of 1-4 bedroom properties, with the affordability represented by a mix of shared ownership and social rent. The information states that the design of the homes will reflect the character of the local area.

The section shaded in red to the left of the planned housing development area represents a 'habitat creation area' which will exceed the 10% gain in biodiversity that is required on all major developments. It also states that existing trees on the boundary will be retained where possible and new tree planting and landscape buffer areas situated around the site edges. Provision will also be made for green infrastructure within close proximity of the canal, as well as through the site itself.

We encourage all residents affected to engage with this consultation process, prior to a full planning application coming forward for determination later this year.
