CALL OUT – 29 August 2026

📍 Hergest Ridge

The team was called to Hergest Ridge, where a casualty was treated by ambulance personnel before being stretchered by team members to the roadside.

A big thank you to the The Royal Oak, Gladestry, who brought out a very welcome tray of tea and biscuits for the casualty’s cold and wet friends, and kindly offered tea and coffee to the team too.

Cafodd y tîm ei alw i Gefn Hergest, lle’r oedd unigolyn ag anafiadau yn cael triniaeth gan swyddogion ambiwlans cyn ei gludo ar stretsier at ymyl y ffordd gan aelodau’r tîm.

Call Out – 23 August 2026
📍Elan Valley

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team were called to the Elan Valley to assist two people who had become lost while out on bikes.

One of the casualties had sustained an ankle injury and was cold. Due to their difficult location, evacuation by stretcher would have been challenging.

A foot party and the team’s Gator were deployed to reach the casualties. Due to the location and terrain, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter assistance was required to airlift them from the area.

The call out continued through the night, with team members deployed from approximately 9pm until 4.30am.

Both casualties were safe at the end of the incident, with one requiring further care for the ankle injury.

📍Galwad - 23 Awst 2026 Cwm Elan

Daeth galwad yn gofyn i Dîm Achub Mynydd Aberhonddu fynd i Gwm Elan i helpu dau unigolyn oedd wedi colli eu ffordd pan oedden nhw ar eu beiciau.

Roedd un o’r unigolion wedi anafu ei bigwrn ac yn oer. Oherwydd eu lleoliad anodd, byddai eu symud ar stretsier wedi bod yn dasg heriol.

Anfonwyd parti ar droed a cherbyd Gator y tîm i gyrraedd yr unigolion anafedig. Oherwydd y lleoliad a natur y tir, roedd rhaid cael cymorth Hofrennydd Achub Gwylwyr y Glannau i’w codi a’u cludo o’r ardal.

Parhaodd yr alwad drwy’r nos, gydag aelodau’r tîm ar waith o 9 o’r gloch yr hwyr tan 4.30 o’r gloch y bore.

Roedd y ddau unigolyn yn ddiogel ar ddiwedd yr alwad, gydag un angen gofal pellach mewn cysylltiad â’i bigwrn.

Gyda diolch i Wylwyr y Glannau Ei Fawrhydi am eu cymorth.

Happy International Dog Day from Brecon Mountain Rescue Team!

🐕 Bryn our mascot, Tango our newest probationary member, Rhedyn who is now retired and Dil who is a retired SARDA dog enjoying her well earned retirement are helping us celebrate today.

⛰️ Tango is currently working through his Search and Rescue dog training stages with SARDA South Wales. His orange lead was made by team member Dave Coombs using rope that has been retired from operational use. Once rope reaches the end of its working life for technical rescue, it is still perfectly safe and strong for dog leads. Every penny raised supports the team.

A longer read for a Sunday evening, but we believe worthwhile. We’ve recently had a few comments and questions about charging people for the time and resources we put into rescues. Firstly, a reminder, mountain and cave rescue in the UK is free, and all teams are charities run by volunteers.

Our view is that if someone needs help on the hills, in the Dales or underground, the last thing they should worry about is a bill. Charging casualties might sound simple, but it creates problems that put people, and rescuers, at greater risk.

We don’t want people hesitating - If someone’s hurt, lost or unwell, they should call early, not wait until things get critical because they’re worried about money. Early calls save lives.

Accidents happen - Most of our rescues involve people who were well‑prepared but unlucky: a slip, a sudden medical issue, weather turning fast. Charging them would punish misfortune.

We’re volunteers - CRO exists because of community support, not invoices. Charging casualties would damage trust and undermine the ethos of UK mountain and cave rescue.

It makes rescues riskier - Self‑rescue attempts, hiding injuries, or pushing on when unwell all lead to more serious incidents, and more danger for our team.

The bottom line - CRO will always respond, free of charge, day or night.

No judgement. No invoice. Just help.
