A live music celebration of Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service is coming to the Rheged stage ONE WEEK TODAY!

Rheged Rocks ‘II’: Lifeline will include live music performances by staff from across the service, including frontline responders, as well as a raffle, auction, bar and food.

Featuring live music from soul-tinged Cumbrian stalwart Rory Connor, acoustic duo Mark and Martin, folk favourites from 2 Meter Man and the Minors, punk rockers Band from the Pubs, eclectic covers from The Felltones, and five-piece blues band Shakin’ Bones.

All raising money for the fantastic Fire Fighters Charity and Great North Air Ambulance Service!

☀️❗️ The UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber heat-health alert for the North West from 1am on Wednesday 24 June until 11pm on Thursday 25 June, and temperatures are forecast by the Met Office to reach as high as 33C in Cumbria.

While you're out enjoying the sun, please be aware of the risks and take extra care to look after yourself and others.

🍃🔥 Hot and dry spells increase the wildfire risk, but many of these can be prevented by avoiding campfires and barbecues, and disposing of litter responsibly including ci******es and glass bottles.

🔔 Install audible carbon monoxide alarms in all rooms with fuel burning appliances
🔧 Get a registered engineer to service your appliances regularly

Too many people die needlessly or become seriously ill because of carbon monoxide poisoning each year, as early symptoms can easily be mistaken for flu or tiredness.

If you experience symptoms or your CO alarm sounds:

🚪 Open doors and windows
💨 Get fresh air immediately
🏃‍♀️ Leave the house
📞 Call the emergency services
🏨Seek medical advice if feeling unwell

Join the Fire Cadets – a uniformed youth organisation run by Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service which offers life-changing opportunities for young people based on citizenship, community and you.

Applications are open NOW for our next intake, scheduled to start from March 2026, with units running from the following fire stations:

▶ Barrow Fire Station
▶ Carlisle East Fire Station
▶ Millom Fire Station
▶ Whitehaven Fire Station
▶ Workington Fire Station

Units meet one evening each week and offer:

🤝 A welcoming and inclusive environment
🧯 Realistic fire and rescue service activities
👨‍🚒 A uniform to wear with pride

Tonight was the last drill night for Crew Manager Colin Bell. Colin has served the community of Longtown for 35 years and it would be an understatement to say he will be missed. Every current firefighter at Longtown (and many other stations) has benefited from Colins knowledge and support. Colin retires at midnight tomorrow and there will be a big hole we may never fill.
