Two WYFRS firefighters are taking on an incredible challenge to mark 25 years since the events of 9/11.

Crew Manager Tom Else and firefighter Ben Moody will cycle to every fire station in West Yorkshire, aiming to complete the route within just 24 moving hours while raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

Starting at Morley Fire Station and finishing at FSHQ and Spen Valley Fire Station on 11 September, the route has been split into six stages of around 40 to 50 miles each.

What an incredible achievement 🔥 👏

Five WYFRS colleagues have completed their stair climb challenge in memory of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11.

Spencer Priestley, Luke Garnett, Zoe Ricketts, Kev Sutcliffe and Matty Birch joined firefighters from across the UK and Ireland in the Terry Farrell Firefighters' Fund Memorial Stair Climb in the United States.

Climbing 110 floors, the equivalent height of the World Trade Centre, the team honoured those who lost their lives while serving others. Their dedication and commitment have received recognition from event organisers, senior fire service leaders in both the US and UK, and families of New York firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11.

It's Chimney Fire Safety Week (7th - 13th Sep) 🏠

Now is the perfect time to prepare your chimney for the colder months ahead.

✅ Have your chimney swept at least once a year by a competent chimney sweep. It may need to be more frequently depending on the fuel you use.
✅ Burn only the fuel recommended for your appliance.
✅ Ensure you have working smoke detectors on every level of your home.
✅ Install a carbon monoxide (CO) detector in any room containing a solid fuel-burning appliance.
