Course 216 | Week 9 🔥

Another busy week for our trainees as they continued to develop their skills.

Syndicate 2 began their (BA) Breathing Apparatus training, tackling live fire scenarios, compartment fire exercises and ventilation tactics.

Meanwhile, Syndicate 1 completed their Emergency Trauma Care package, covering CPR, casualty assessment, trauma management, extrication techniques and realistic casualty scenarios before undertaking their final assessments.

Every week brings new challenges, new skills and one step closer to pass out!

Following a weekend of storm related incidents across West Yorkshire, Deputy Chief Fire Officer Dave Walton is reminding residents to prepare for future adverse weather, stay informed of weather warnings and use the correct reporting routes for fallen trees and storm debris.

Today marks the start of , and we're celebrating the dedicated people behind the headset.

When you call 999 and ask for FIRE, our Fire Control operators are there to answer. They deal with hundreds of calls every day, gathering vital information, mobilising the right resources and supporting incidents across West Yorkshire.

Behind every call is a highly trained professional who can remain calm under pressure, make critical decisions and, in some cases, provide life saving guidance to people facing an emergency.

For fallen trees, branches, or debris causing obstruction or concern, please report the issue to your local council using the appropriate reporting route.

A busy day for Spen Valley Red Watch! 😺🫧

From raising just under £800 for The Fire Fighters Charity at their charity car wash, to the purrrfect rescue of four kittens trapped beneath a container on a farm in Halifax.

The kittens were safely reunited with their mother and left in the care of the farmer.

Be prepared 🌪⚠

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind, from 12noon on Saturday to 9pm on Sunday, as passes through our region.

This could lead to powercuts, building damage and risk of flying debris, interruptions to public transport and possibly road or bridge closures.

Make sure you're prepared by...

- Securing any loose garden items.
- Checking road conditions and public transport routes before setting off.
- Getting things ready in case of a powercut.
- Keep up to date with weather warnings.

A late night rescue with a happy ending for one four legged friend 🐾

Crews from Wetherby Red Watch were called to rescue Maddoc the dog after he became stranded on a riverbank and was unable to get out of the water.

In the dark and cold conditions, firefighters located Maddoc, brought him safely to shore and reunited him with his very relieved owner.

Maddoc was happy to be safe and sound again, although crews suspect he was more concerned about missing his tea. Great work by the crew and we're pleased to report Maddoc was none the worse for his adventure!

🔥 The countdown is on... Bonfire Night is coming to HQ!

The Fire Fighters Charity is hosting a Bonfire & Fireworks Extravaganza at our headquarters on Friday, 6th November, with the event proudly supported by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Expect an evening packed with entertainment, including:
✔️ A traditional bonfire
✔️ Two fireworks displays, including a shorter, quieter display for younger children and those sensitive to loud noises
✔️ Fairground rides
✔️ Food and drink stalls

Here’s what you need to know:
✔️ Friday, 6th November
✔️ Headquarters, Birkenshaw, BD11 2DY
✔️ Gates open at 5:30pm
✔️ Quieter fireworks display at 7:45pm
✔️ Main fireworks display at 8:35pm

Tickets are £8:00 for adults and £4:00 for children, with a family ticket for one adult and one child available for £10:00, when booked in advance.

Every penny raised will support The Fire Fighters Charity, helping provide lifelong physical and emotional support to serving and retired fire and rescue colleagues and their families.

Please note that on-site parking is limited to pre-booked accessible spaces for Blue Badge holders.

Be spooky. Be respectful. 👻

Not everyone wants to take part in Halloween celebrations. If a household displays a sign asking for no trick or treat callers, please respect it and move on.

🕸️ Let's make Hallowe'en enjoyable for everyone.

While many families enjoy trick or treating, it's important to remember that some people may prefer not to answer the door, whether due to anxiety, age, health concerns or personal preference.

Our downloadable posters can be displayed to indicate that a household does not wish to receive trick or treat callers.

If you see a poster, please be considerate and move on to the next house. 🎃
