This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme is: ‘Take Action’ - take action for yourself; for someone else and for all us. We have a display of books, both fiction and non fiction on mental health, so with the added strain and stress at this time of year with revision and exams, you might like to come and have a browse. Make sure you take time to talk and share your worries, and be aware of others around you. good to talk

We have a display of this year’s annual Summer Reads with six books. Each year group has a choice of three books; two fiction and one non- fiction. These books have been chosen by Staff and Pupils. At the beginning of the Michaelmas term, we have the Goose Weekend where amongst many other activities the houses are tested on how well they have read and understood the book they have chosen via anagram puzzles and crosswords.

A great Latin phrase for this week’s ‘Word(s) of the Week’, meaning seize the day; enjoy life whilst you can. It originated from the Roman poet Horace from his work Odes (23BC). Today, this phrase is often used in self-help literature, motivational speeches and social media where it encourages individuals to act decisively and pursue their passions without hesitation.

A selection of twelve new reads on display in the Library to kickstart the month of May! ‘The Wasp Trap’ by Mark Edwards is a gripping, fast-paced thriller starting with an invitation, whilst ‘The Escape Game by Marissa Meyer is a murder mystery, to die for! ‘The Astral Library’ by Kate Quinn is a fantastical adventure set inside a library where a shadowy enemy lies in wait. Sanctuary is found within open doors to favourite books and where they lead you to . . . All these books available to loan and just a sample of the extensive range of fiction genre available in the Library, so come and have a browse.

With the IB diploma exams fast approaching in May, the Library has a display of IB revision guides in the core subjects to help you through this process. Smartprep IB cards are a comprehensive subject-specific revision tool to help master key concepts and the skills required for passing exams. They cover syllabus topics, including case studies, with the format designed to make study as efficient as possible.

Six new ‘Issues’ volumes have arrived in the library, covering topics on gambling, su***de, stress, NHS, consumer choices and children’s rights. These are great research books for secondary education, with articles sourced from newspapers, journals and government reports, uncovering facts, opinions and statistics. We also offer ‘Issues online’ on our online platform offering instant access to thousands of articles, infographics, targeted to support PSHE and RSE curriculum.

Looking for some reading inspiration? Then take a few minutes of your day to come and have a browse at our ‘BookTok Made me Read it’ display. A mixture of Classics and popular reads, largely focusing on young adult, romance and fantasy chosen via the Book Tok algorithm. This community of readers, authors and creators, share what they’re reading and writing through short-form videos, reviewing and discussing and joking about the books they have read.

12 books currently on display, chosen from the ‘ Sunday Times Bestsellers’ list for March. A mixture of fiction and nonfiction, Garrett Carr’s ‘The Boy from the Sea’, is the story of a baby abandoned on an Irish beach and how that little boy brings the community together life changing consequences. The biography by Ian Leslie, ‘John & Paul: a Love Story in Songs’ is a must read for anyone who wants to understand how the Beatles worked, and is a love story of longing, laughter, pain and joy. Tic Tok sensation, ‘The Inheritance Games’ by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is an addictive, twist-filled mystery, full of family secrets, illicit romance and a high-stake treasure hunt; books to suit all tastes, so come and have a browse!
