❌ don't feed the cattle

If you love writing and are looking for a challenge, Bracknell Forest Library and Information Service is running a short story writing competition for people aged 16 and over. Details in their post below 👇

Take part in our short story writing competition!

To celebrate our upcoming festival of reading in November 2026, we’re inviting adults and young adults to enter our short story writing competition!

The theme is “Moments that matter: a Bracknell Forest story”

Write a short story of up to 500 words, inspired by a moment that changed something, meant something, or simply stayed with you. Your story could be funny, mysterious, romantic, dramatic, magical, frightening – or anything in between! Take inspiration from the people, places and landscapes of Bracknell Forest, and let your imagination lead the way.

1st prize: £50 book voucher
Two runners-up: £25 book voucher each

It’s free to enter and the competition is open to Bracknell Forest residents aged 16 and over.

Closing date: Sunday 25 October 2026

A3095 Forest Road, Warfield is currently closed in both directions between A3095 Maidenhead Road and Abby Place today (Monday, 14 September).

The road closure is in place so that Thames Water can carry out emergency sewer cover replacement work.

Today is Ganesh Chaturthi, a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesh, the ‘elephant god’ known for wisdom, strength and removing obstacles.

The festival is celebrated with prayers, flowers, music and traditional sweets. Families and communities come together to celebrate and ask for Ganesh’s blessings to overcome challenges.

The celebrations traditionally last for up to 10 days, ending with Ganesh Visarjan on Friday, 25 September 2026.

We’re excited to announce the our FREE annual public visits to the MRF during Recycle Week! Come behind the scenes and see how thousands of tonnes of plastic, paper, metal and cardboard are sorted and prepared for recycling.
