This morning I was privileged to be asked to open the White Ribbon event at Newbridge Fields as the Leader of BCBC. The White Ribbon is a powerful symbol representing the promise we should all make to never commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence against women. Many thanks to all who helped organise the event and all those who took part in the 5k run around Newbridge Fields (myself included) as part of the event.

⚠️Amber Warning – Snow and Ice

With road surface temperatures expected to fall below zero tonight, we are treating priority roads on our highways network.

❄️ Some areas may see road surface temperatures as low as 0°C, so extra care should be exercised, especially on untreated parts of the network.

Residents are being advised to take care after the Met Office issued an amber weather warning for snow between 6pm on Saturday, 4 January until 12pm on Sunday, 5 January 2025. The alert, which includes the majority of Wales, warns that potential snow forecasts could cause disruption to travel.

For more details about salting and to view routes, please visit our website:

Caution is advised for travel and walking on untreated surfaces. If you need to make an essential journey, please drive carefully. Information about driving in adverse weather conditions can be found on the Highway Code website:

Stay safe and take necessary precautions. ❄

Storm Bert is continuing to cause disruption across the UK with high winds and heavy rain.

In Bridgend County Borough, council crews are working around the clock to remove fallen trees, clear drains and gulleys, distribute sandbags and keep traffic moving.

A temporary road closure is in place at the A4061 in both directions between Nantymoel and the Bwlch following a landslide, and the Dipping Bridge at New Inn Road in Merthyr Mawr is currently closed.

Fallen branches are also in the process of being removed from Coychurch Road.

Further updates will be available as the situation develops, but in the meantime, motorists are being advised to use alternative routes wherever possible, and to take care.

Planning Inspector dismisses the appeal lodged by Mulberry Homes to build 70 houses on land to the rear of Waunscil Avenue / Chorleywood Close and Gwaun Coed, Brackla.
Having been involved in these applications and appeals for almost 30 years, I am pleased to hear this decision and will continue to represent the views of residents should this applicant keep submitting applications to destroy this natural green space area.

☀️ It’s a beautiful day in Brackla West Central ☀️

🌹 Thank you to every single person we spoke to on the doorstep today with Brackla Labour to promote our wonderful and popular Welsh Labour candidate and councillor of over 30 years, John Spanswick.

✊ Johns record here as a councillor is too large to share, but it’s obvious to see on the doorstep just how many people he has helped over the years with local issues.

🗳 If you value John, vote for him to return as your BCBC and Brackla Community Council councillor on the 5th of May 🌹
