Today we wish a long and happy retirement to our colleague Martin Dodgson (Dobby) after 30 years service, we're sure you will still see him about on and around the lake from time to time, be sure to give him a wave. 😃

As the summer holidays draw to a close it is time to start thinking about Winter, applications can now be made for the following

Winter Boat Storage - Ferry Nab - 31st October 2026 to 31st March 2027 - Cost £52.00 inc vat per metre (Please note you need a trailer/trolley which is structurally and mechanically sound).

Winter Jetty Berths at Ferry Nab (maximum 6) - 01/11/2026 to 31/03/2027 - £1339.00 inc vat. - If more than 6 applicants then a draw will be made on 30th September.

Winter Let Holiday Moorings - Various locations - 01/11/2026 to 31/03/2027 - £366.00 inc vat.

(N.B priority will be given to Council Mooring Clients)

💧 Water safety is uppermost in many parents' minds this August Bank Holiday weekend.

Talking to teenagers about staying safe can be tricky - especially when you want to guide them without lecturing.

The Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK toolkit is designed to help you start calm, realistic conversations about water safety that teens are more likely to listen to.

The "Have the Conversation" toolkit includes simple prompts that help young people understand the risks of open water and make safer choices when hanging out with friends near rivers, lakes, beaches and other bodies of open water.

Many drowning incidents don’t happen during extreme activities - they happen in everyday situations, with friends, in places that feel familiar.

Great Job by South Lakes Police, remember to always report any suspicious activity, items tampered with or stolen, no matter the value, as it helps build a picture of what is happening.

At 09:10HRS on Tuesday 11th August police received a report that someone had just stolen a water bike by Lake Windermere. Within 20 minutes colleagues from our Operational Support team had a vehicle stopped on the A590 that was suspected to have been involved in this theft, not quite the smooth sailing getaway he was hoping for. The occupant of the vehicle was detained for a search and the victims bike was recovered along with other suspected stolen property.

Our colleagues on the Neighbourhood Support Team took over the subsequent investigation and after some excellent investigative work the suspect was subsequently charged with Theft.

The message to those coming to the lakes to commit crime remains simple, you are not welcome here!

Remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour to the police. 🚨 ⛵

💧 This World Drowning Prevention Day we want people to unite to turn the tide.

Drowning claims more than 300,000 lives every year. That’s 30 people drowning every hour.

Whoever you are, you have a role to play. Make sure the people in your circle know how to 'Float to Live' if they get into difficulty in water:

👂 Tilt your head back with your ears submerged
🫁 Relax and try to breathe normally
👋 Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat
🦵 It’s OK if your legs sink, we all float differently
🗣️ Once your breathing is under control, call for help or swim to safety

Summer is here! With the prolonged dry weather forecast please be extra careful on the water to prevent sunstroke/heatstroke, also a timely reminder that the lake level is low and will continue to drop, be extra careful when navigating and give the shallows a wider berth then normal. 😊
