An update on Swim Lessons From MLC
Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the latest block of swimming lessons. The logistics of our capital upgrade programme affecting two lessons of the block and losing 3 teachers, 1 off to Uni & 2 off Islay for September, making organizing this block of lessons extremely difficult. Having to cancel this entire block has not been done lightly as teaching children how to swim was the main reason the leisure centre was built in the first place, and continues to be a core mission to this day. In order to honour that commitment we need people in the community to step forward to teach.
Plea to the community: If you feel you can spare a few hours on a Saturday morning to teach a vital skill to the children in our community, please contact us. In return, you will receive £13 per hour, swimming teachers receive free swim and gym membership and children of swim teachers learn for free.
Children’s Coordinator Role available: Overall tasks include the smooth operation of the swim school as well as aiding the Projects Manager in delivering projects for young people. If you would be interested in this role, a job description and person specification can be forwarded.
Capital upgrade works: Will be completed by October and we have a swim teacher course running between 6th-10th October. If anyone could spare some time to help teach the next generation an important life skill, please get in touch with the centre on 01496 810767, 305377 or [email protected]. We are also looking for children to take part in the course so our new teachers can be trained/assessed. If you would be interested in your child attending, please get in touch via the email above.
Hopefully, this course will be well attended and we can resume swim teaching. In the meantime, the Saturday morning session will still be available as a public session between 10.30 and 12.30. We urge families to use this session to keep their children used to being in the water.
We plan to restart lessons on the 24th October and run every week until 20th December. This will incorporate a full 5 week block and one four week block. This makes use of all the remaining time we have available for this year and catches us up to within one lesson missed.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused and we thank you in advance for your understanding
