As Great Big Green Week Bovey Tracey gets under way, a big thank you to everyone who takes their litter home when bins are full. Our team can’t be on duty 24/7 to empty them so please, give your wonderful Mill Marsh Park a little TLC, especially at those busier times.

Mayor Cllr Sheila Brooke has opened the town’s 22nd Craft Festival.
Even as the gates opened, people were lining up to see what was on offer while a steady stream of shuttle buses was delivering even more folk to Mill Marsh Park.
Impressed with her first impressions, Cllr Brooke said: ‘Every piece on display tells a story of skill, patience and passion. By supporting these talented individuals we help preserve traditional crafts while encouraging new generations of makers.’
She thanked all those who had made the event a success both past and present and encouraged visitors to make the most of their stay by following the Town Trail included with the event programme.
Organise Sarah James MBE was equally happy with the launch and said: ‘I’m absolutely delighted, it’s great to see so many people here in Bovey Tracey enjoying Mill Marsh Park and all the wonderful things here.’
The fair runs today, Saturday and Sunday.

Bovey Tracey Town Council calls on developers to finish existing construction before project extends

BOVEY Tracey Town Council has called on developers to complete the first phase of new homes at the Longston Cross site before starting work on more than 100 others.
In particular they want a pedestrian and cycle link to Brimley Vale to be opened and for Devonshire Homes to deliver on its commitment to provide ten allotments.
They also have concerns that the next part of the project off Monks Way will be served by just one road, meaning traffic heading to a proposed ‘employment’ area will have to pass by hundreds of homes and cross a footpath.
More on this, including a response from Devonshire Homes Limited, on our website.

Could Your Garden Help Uncover Local History?
The Teignbridge Gardens Project – Volunteers & Gardens Wanted

The Teignbridge Archaeological Society is launching an exciting new community archaeology initiative: The Teignbridge Gardens Project.

We are looking for volunteers and local residents across Teignbridge and South Devon who may be interested in hosting a small archaeological test pit in their garden.

A test pit is a small 1m x 1m excavation, carefully dug to investigate the history of a site through finds such as pottery, clay pipes, building material, and other artefacts. Even small discoveries can help us better understand the story of our villages and communities, and ultimately Teignbridge, through time.

The project also aims to give local people the opportunity to gain practical archaeological skills and hands-on experience, whether they have a long-standing interest in history or are simply curious to learn something new.
No previous experience is necessary.

If you would be interested in volunteering or offering your garden for a test pit, please contact:
Jowan Albon
Secretary, Teignbridge Archaeological Society
