After a lovely half term filled with sunshine the
preschool staff had a productive inset day. We
had a little move around in the preschool room
and following our children’s interest we set up
a construction site in the role play area. This
week the children have enjoyed exploring this
area, using a variety of different sized bricks to
build with. The children have worked so well together as a team to make some larger scale builds. They’ve discussed their ideas and listened well to each other to ensure their car had all the right parts. This week we have also had a large train track set up for the children to explore. The children’s trains have been on many different adventures, have stopped at the station to
collect passengers and the children have done
some wonderful sharing of the carriages between themselves. Out in the garden the children have explored shaving foam in the tuff tray. They enjoyed using their hands to make marks in the foam, commenting that the foam felt cold. One child asked to use a brush and then proceeded to draw people in the foam. Some of the children asked for some water in the ball run. They then
worked together, using different sized spoons to transport the water into a bowl, carried it to the top of the ball run and watched the water travel back down.

This week the children were amazed at how quickly the chicks had grown over the weekend. They’ve still enjoyed lots of lovely cuddles but have found it fascinating that the chicks have been beginning to flap their wings. The children have been exploring the loose parts this week too. The children have used the loose parts to make some wonderful creations, from faces to pizzas! Today we had our first swimming session of the summer term. All of the teachers have felt so incredibly proud of all of the children, although some of them were feeling a little bit nervous they all listened really well during the session and their confidence grew whilst in the water. We hope you all have a wonderful half term break!

It has been another very exciting week at preschool this week, we returned from the weekend to our hatched chicks.  The children have been super stars at holding the chicks very gently, sitting quietly so they don’t scare the chicks and have been fantastic at waiting their turn. The first chick to hatch was born on Miss Jo’s daughter’s birthday so was named Callie but the other two chicks needed a name. The children all have some name suggestions and voted that the other chicks should be called Bluey and Bingo. Whilst the chicks have been out for cuddles the children have noticed and talked about their similarities and difference in size, colour and even their beak colours. This week the children visited the school playground where they had a wonderful climbing the steps on the pirate ship to access the slide, where they slid down in a variety of ways. They also played a few group games of hide and seek, finding some fantastic hiding spaces whilst the seeker counted loudly.  The children have also enjoyed water play this week, using pipettes to transport the water in bowls. They also used tongs to scoop up the mint and water to make potions.

When we arrived back at preschool after the bank holiday weekend, the children noticed that their cress had grown so much. On Wednesday Miss Jo brought us some ingredients in to make some sandwiches. The children all had a fantastic go at buttering their bread before using some scissors to snip the cress. The children were able to choose whether they wanted to add cheese or ham to their sandwiches before folding their bread in half to keep their fillings inside. We have been feeling very proud of all of the children for trying their cress sandwiches, lots of the children described their sandwiches as “delicious” and “yummy” This week our role play area has been changed into a Garden Centre. The children have enjoyed choosing their flowers and taking them to the till to pay for them. The children have been busy working on the computer to take orders from their customers, making notes in the notepad. The children have also enjoyed the sensory tray within the garden centre area. They have filled pots with lentils and and flowers as well as role playing what happens when you plant a seed. The children have also really enjoyed experiencing ‘slime’ in our tuff tray. Some children have used spoons to scoop the slime into their pots but most of the children have loved using their hands to feel the slime. It was also really lovely to have our Mini Athletics session outside in the sunshine. The session was also garden themed. We built a flower garden by balancing stems (pointy cones) on top of pots (flat cones) and placing or throwing the flowers (balls and shooting stars) on top! We planted two rows to create a very pretty garden path, which Gogo was very pleased with! We ran down the path with Gogo, showing him what we had done! The task required really good hand-eye coordination. In our second game we made tea for Gogo! We picked up a saucepan (flat cone) and ran through Gogo’s garden collecting a vegetable (shooting star/ball) to cook! We put the pan in the oven (slid it under a hurdle) and then put it on a plate (hoop) ready for tea! We used a lot of imagination and had a lot of fun!

This week the children have had a wonderful time planting some cress seeds with Miss Jo. Firstly they decorated a sticky label to put on their pot before using a spoon to scoop some soil into their pots. Once the soil was in their pot the children sprinkled their cress seeds on top of the soil and gave them a spray of water. The children spoke about how the seeds will grow and we have decided once the cress has grown enough we will make some sandwiches to taste the cress. The children have shown a big interest in singing and dancing this week and before lunchtime they have asked for the music on. We have listened to some of the familiar moo music songs. The children have moved their bodies in a variety of ways and we have seen some wonderful dance moves. In the sand this week we added diggers. The children worked together to use the diggers to make a road, pushing the wet sand to the edge of the tray before using their hands to mould the sand into barriers for the diggers to go through. Wishing everyone a lovely Bank Holiday weekend!
